We are offering two Anaesthetic Senior Clinical Fellow job at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Applicants should have full GMC registration with a licence to practise, at least 6 years' postgraduate medical training, with at least 5 years of anaesthetic training.

The posts are ideally suited to those looking to expand their expertise in a specific area of anaesthesia whilst working within a busy tertiary hospital.

Successful applicants will join a busy, supportive department, providing anaesthesia for a broad range of specialties, and will participate in 2nd on anaesthetic rotas covering Anaesthesia, Enhanced Perioperative Care (EPOC), Obstetrics, and Critical Care as required

Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities

The posts offer both subspecialty training and development in a range of clinical areas and opportunities for non-clinical professional development. Clinical duties will include those normally expected of an anaesthetic ST6+.

Of the available Fellowships, Thoracics/Upper GI and Neuro/Spines are based solely on the City and QMC campus respectively, with the remainder delivered flexibly across both locations. The work schedule is 48hrs per week on average, and it includes a contribution to resident on-call and out-of-hours activity at a frequency of up to 1 in 7. The available Fellowships are as follows:

• Thoracics & Upper GI
• Neuro & Spines
• Head & Neck
• Obstetrics
• Hepatobiliary
• Regional Anaesthesia
• Perioperative Medicine

On average, half of the work schedule will be allocated to clinical work predominantly in the clinical specialty of interest, with the other half devoted to non-clinical activity, e.g. academic, QI, etc.

• Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) is the acute setting and supports a substantial surgical workload including neurosurgery, spinal surgery, head and neck, hepatobiliary, and vascular surgery. It also houses the region's only Major Trauma Centre, Emergency Department, Children's Hospital, Treatment Centre, Trent Simulation Centre and Medical School
• Nottingham City Hospital (NCH) delivers planned care and is where cardiac, thoracic, urology, colorectal, the majority of cancer surgery, and renal transplants are undertaken.

Job responsibilities
Clinical duties will include those normally expected of an Anaesthetic ST6+. During the daytime, this will involve theatre work; out of hours, duties will include 2nd on rota sessions at city or QMC.

Consultant cover is provided at all times, being non-resident overnight. At QMC, Consultant Anaesthetists are resident throughout all daytime and twilight sessions, 7 days a week, supporting the emergency workload.

The successful candidates will be responsible to a named Consultant within the senior management team, and have a named Educational Supervisor. They will be required to:

• Participate in the delivery of a high quality 24-hour service including participation in the resident Out of Hours rota, covering a mixture of Anaesthetics, EPOC, Critical Care, and Obstetric Anaesthesia. Daytime sessions will be within Anaesthetics
• Provide internal cover for colleagues on leave, which is included in the current banding allocation of this post. In exceptional circumstances and for short periods only, Clinical Fellows may be requested to provide additional cover, for example, to cover sickness. Locums may also be employed in this instance. The rota is EWTD compliant with appropriate level of banding for anti-social hours
• Work flexibly, maintain a logbook and portfolio, engage with supervision, undergo medical appraisal and to develop a learning plan/PDP
• Comply with management arrangements in place, to follow the guidelines on practice laid down by the General Medical Councils Maintaining Good Medical Practice, and to be accountable to the Trust for their actions and the quality of their work
• Comply with Trust Health and Safety policies, fulfil mandatory training requirements and maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff
• Have knowledge of and employ the basic principles of infection control practice
• Maintain effective working relationships with anaesthetic, nursing, operating department, critical care, midwifery, and surgical colleagues
