We are looking for a registered pharmacy technician with a recognised accuracy checking qualification and if you were successful you would become a key part of setting up and shaping the pharmacy service to this area going forwards and paving the future of rehabilitation in the UK.
You will work with our pharmacists, medicines management assistant and other members of the multidisciplinary team to optimise the use of medicines at the NRC, making a real difference to patient safety, patient experience and satisfaction.
Your contribution will be vital but not only that, you will be supported to grow and learn through our many developmental programmes at the NRC as well as to engaging in research and innovation.
Planning for the NRC is in its advanced stages, and the building should be ready in 2026. This role will be temporarily based at Queens Medical Centre before moving over to the NRC. For more details of the centre please visit the NRC website www.nationalrehabilitationcentre.nhs.uk
Main duties of the jobTo improve and support the quality of patient care on admission and at discharge within the NRC, through the provision of a professional and effective medicines management service.
This will include the assessment, and where suitable, re-use of patient's own medications, accurate and meticulous drug histories, thorough patient counselling, timely preparation of discharge prescriptions, one-stop dispensing and authorised self-checking, as well as supporting the ward teams with storage and security issues.
The role involves the supporting dispensary when required and performing weekend duties. The shifted and bank holiday duties are as follows:
To participate in departmental weekends, bank holidays and late duty working as required. At the time of advertising, the weekend rota encompasses 2 half-day shifts every 4/5 weeks at the City campus or 1 full day shift every 4 weeks at the QMC campus.

The NRC programme is being led by NUH and is part of the National New Hospital Programme, transforming rehabilitation services for the future. This will be a ground-breaking 70 bed facility for NHS patients based alongside and closely connected to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Stanford Hall. The 'Defence' element is complete and has been treating patients since autumn 2018.

Person SpecificationTraining and Qualifications- BTEC/NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
- General Pharmaceutical Council registered Pharmacy Technician
- Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (Accredited scheme or evidence of in-house validations)
Desirable- Medicine Management Assessments or Validations (accredited or proof of in-house training)
Physical skills- Good level of computer literacy and word processing /keyboard skills
Desirable- Experience using electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems
Experience- Experience in the admission/discharge processes within hospital pharmacy
- Experience of management and coordination of staff within hospital pharmacy
- Proven knowledge and experience in using computer labelling and stock control systems within hospital pharmacy
Desirable- Experience of undertaking incident investigations
- Experience of delivering staff training
Communication and relationship skills- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with a wide range of staff and patients
- To communicate effectively, clearly and concisely complex or sensitive information relative to medicine management back to patients, staff and colleagues
- Able to work well in a team
Analytical and judgement skills- Proven evidence of judgement and prioritisation skills with regards to targets, deadlines and stock management
