Main duties of the jobWhat Your Role Looks Like
The post-holder will have consultant responsibilities for a caseload of up to 14 in inpatient and 8 community-based patients. Some of these patients will be subject to Mental Health Act (MHA) provisions (conditionally discharged, guardianship or CTO). Care co-ordination is provided by community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists or mental health practitioners. You will have specific consultant responsibility predominantly for patients across Nottinghamshire.
Day-to-day, you'll:
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients in the community and in an inpatient setting.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective treatment.
- Take part in service development and academic programmes.
- Uphold professional standards and contribute to the efficient running of services.

- GMC specialist registration in Forensic Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT).
- Approved Clinician status and Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT in Forensic Psychiatry (or General Adult Psychiatry with appropriate forensic experience)
- Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status and DBS clearance
Desirable- Relevant higher degree eg MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
EligibilityEssential- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
Desirable- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Clinical Skills, Knowledge & ExperienceEssential- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to take a leadership role in a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care and staff morale
- Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
- Ability to appraise own performance
- Experience in providing written reports for legal purposes
- Expert knowledge of forensic psychiatry
- Risk management linked to provisions of mental health care including secure care and protection of public
- Experience of Care Programme Approach
- 3 years approved higher training in Forensic Psychiatry (or General Adult Psychiatry and equivalent experience in forensic psychiatry)
- Higher Specialist Trainees are eligible to apply if within 6 months of their CCT date
- Working with mentally disordered offenders
- Knowledge of management and clinical leadership structures within the NHS
- Ability to contribute to the Directorate and Trust's strategic direction
Desirable- Clinical experience of working in community forensic settings
- Other relevant experience, eg specific psychological therapies
- Additional clinical qualification
