As
Lead Clinical Reviewer, you'll provide expert clinical oversight, coordination and delivery of clinical reviews, ensuring decisions are safe, consistent, objective and of the highest quality.
Acting as the
senior subject matter expert for clinical review processes, you'll support the team with complex medical information and provide senior clinical judgement where required. You'll play a key role in promoting consistency in clinical decision-making, while supporting effective clinical governance, quality assurance and continuous improvement across Optima Health Medical Assessments.
Main duties and Responsibilities:- Lead, coordinate, and quality assure clinical reviews across the service, ensuring accuracy, objectivity, and adherence to clinical governance standards.
- Undertake high complexity and high-risk candidate medical record reviews, providing senior clinical judgement and clear rationale.
- Develop and maintain review templates, frameworks, and guidance to enhance consistency and quality.
- Quality, Assurance & Governance
- Ensure that all reviews align with JSP leaflet 6-7-7 standards and the relevant Optima Health Medical Assessments policy.
- Identify themes, risks, and learning from reviews; produce high-quality reports for governance committees and senior leadership.
- Support incident investigation processes providing clinical expertise
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of clinical standards, pathways, and policies.
- Undertake 50% of clinical review work during the week, it is anticipated that this could be part days.
- Lead or support quality improvement projects arising from review findings.
- Provide mentorship, supervision, and training for clinical reviewers and wider clinical staff.
- Facilitate reflective practice, learning sessions, and case discussions.
- Act as a role model for professional standards, clinical reasoning, and compassionate leadership.
- Undertake clinical audit for clinical reviewers, identify trends from the audit. Audit can include target auditing.
- Participate in own audit.
- Deliver training as required.
- Communicate review outcomes sensitively and effectively to candidates.
- Work collaboratively across the clinical review team and engage with the doctor escalation process to promote a culture of openness, learning, and accountability.
- Produce high-quality written summaries of candidate records.
- Analyse review data to identify trends and provide actionable insights.
- Contribute to quality and Governance reports, regulatory submissions, and assurance documentation.
- Undertake any other duties as requested by the Line Manager as deemed
- Some travel may be required for meetings and training; this may include the occasional overnight stay.
- The core hours of work are Monday to Friday, but you may be required to work outside the normal business hours to meet demands.
Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Required for the Role:Essential:- Registered healthcare professional (e.g., NMC, HCPC, GMC).
- Extensive clinical experience in a relevant setting with evidence of advanced decision-making.
- Proven experience conducting clinical record reviews, audits, or investigations.
- Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance, and risk management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Ability to analyse data, identify themes, and produce high-quality summaries.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence and support others.
Desirable:- Experience leading a clinical review team.
- Knowledge of relevant JSP 950 leaflet 6-7-7 standards.
