An opportunity has arisen within the South Oxon Older Adult Community Mental Health Team (OACMHT) for a professional and dedicated Deputy Team Manager.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced, full time registered Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist who enjoys working with Older Adults and wants to make a difference in the services we provide. We want you to join our senior leadership team to support our staff and patients.

We are a friendly, supportive and proactive team with a culture of high standards of care and any successful applicant will need to be committed to maintaining this. The team works closely with a wide range of internal and external partner's including GPs, district nursing, therapy services, ambulatory care, social care and physical and mental health inpatient providers. We aim to deliver well-coordinated patient care and to share our respective skills and knowledge with one another.

Our team covers a wide geographical area bordering Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Wiltshire and so is ideally placed for staff commuting from Swindon, Reading and Aylesbury. Our main office is in Abingdon, but we have a base in Wallingford and hot desking space for staff covering those areas.

Main duties of the job
As Deputy Team Manager you will be a leader and provide line management and supervision to other experienced clinicians. Working as part of the Senior Leadership team you will support the Team Manager with Service development and we offer training opportunities to help you grow and master skills. Holding a complex caseload will allow you to lead by example and still have that important patient contact whilst developing your management skills.

The MDT is made up of Medical, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Psychology colleagues and we highly regard one another's professional background and contribution to the care of our patients. We view supervision as fundamental to the functioning of the team both clinically and in terms of the well being of our staff. The Older Adult Community Mental health teamwork is demanding, complex and diverse but we are a small, cohesive team who are committed to supporting each other and we enjoy what we do!

Core working hours are Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00. Out-of-hours support services are managed via a team rota. You will be expected to work towards joining the on call duty manager roster once you've settled into the role.

Qualifications
Essential

• Relevant Professional Qualification (RMN or Occupational Therapist)
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio

Desirable

• Qualification in management and leadership within a healthcare setting

Experience
Essential

• To have experience of older people and complex care in the community both generic and mental health
• Experience of supervising and managing staff
• Experience of providing leadership
• Experience of multidisciplinary working
• Formal and informal teaching including supervising student placements

Desirable

• Knowledge of research methodologies
• Experience of implementing research findings into work environment.

Knowledge and skills
Essential

• A specialist knowledge and clinical expertise in community mental health in line with professional requirements
• To have awareness of National and local issues concerning healthcare and older people
• Have advanced knowledge of mental health and the mental health act
• Demonstrate an advanced understanding of clinical risk assessment and management.
• To have a developed understanding of Clinical Governance
