Job summarySummary of the RoleWorking closely with the Service Manager, this post will play a key role in ensuring that the designated clinical services meet key Operational, Finance, Quality and Governance objectives.
This includes:
- Working to ensure effective operational management and delivery of the service with support of the Service Manager
- Work with the Service Manager to manage the day to day running of the specified services to ensure all aspects of Operational performance are met
- Ensure that patient experience and quality of care is considered at all times
- Proactive involvement in the clinical pathway for the relevant sub speciality areas
- Working with Service Manager to ensure that patient access targets are met RTT, Diagnostic and Cancer Performance: working with clinical staff to balance demand and capacity where necessary
- Working with Service Manager to ensure appropriate medical staffing resources are in place to meet the needs of the service; arranging locum cover when requested
- Contribute to budget and financial performance for the relevant sub-speciality areas.
- In conjunction with the Service Manager and Clinical Lead, assist with the preparation of business cases and service development proposals in response to the needs of the service
- Provide line management for relevant staff and groups/individuals
- Represent the interests of the service at relevant service and directorate meetings. Deputising for the Service Manager as needed
- Supporting implementation and roll out of Trust Wide initiatives
Main duties of the jobDuties and ResponsibilitiesKey Relationships and CommunicationThe role will be required at times to communicate complex and sensitive information both verbally and written in a form to include proposals, reports, and presentation to directorate teams and occasionally to external NHS related organisations.
The role will involve facilitation of change within and across organisational and professional boundaries and will require highly developed negotiation, facilitation and persuasion skills.
The role will require the investigation of complaints and performance issues and the communication of this information to patients, families and members of the management team.
The role will need to manage conflict and obstacles to change by the formulation of strategies and processes to overcome such barriers.
Knowledge, Training & ExperienceThe role requires the utilisation of both theoretical and practical knowledge in the management of teams and services.
Knowledge and experience will be applied in the managing complex and at times competing projects, and will use such opportunities to enable the professional development of their own team to improve management capacity and capability.
Planning and Organisational SkillsThe role will require strong organisational skills with an ability to deliver agreed objectives within agreed timeframes.
The role will support the management of projects and proactively develop services in a complex, fast moving environment, with the Service Manager support. The role will support change programmes to raise standards of care for patients.

The post-holder will be required to support others in difficult issues and situations, drawing on the advice of the Service Manager, Human Resources and the Occupational Health team

Directorate Responsibilities:Work as an effective member of the service management team in delivering the objectives of the service

Person SpecificationApplication form and InterviewEssential- Educated to degree level or relevant experience
- Minimum Grade C / 4 GCSE Maths & English
- IT knowledge, understanding of Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Word
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in high pressured situations and a fast paced service
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities everyday
- Knowledge of National, NHS policy standards and performance metrics
- Minimum of 2 years NHS Experience
Desirable- Experience of Using EPR & Revenue Cycle
- Project Work Experience
- Experience of working with external NHS organisations
