Job summary
The Deputy Clinical Director for Pathology and Laboratories will be accountable to the Clinical Director and with the Divisional Director for CSS be responsible for the clinical leadership, governance and operational performance for the services within the Directorate. As a senior lead within the South 4 Pathology Partnership the role will also participate in leadership and delivery across South 4 and have accountability to the South 4 Board.

Medical and non-medical clinical staff are eligible to apply for this post. Medical staff will be expected to identify 8 hours within their job plan to be allocated to this role and will be remunerated with 2 PA's and management allowance of £10k. Non-medical clinical staff will be remunerated at Band 8C - 8 hours per week.

Main duties of the job
The Deputy Clinical Director for Pathology and Laboratories will be accountable to the Clinical Director for the performance of the directorate. This is a key operational role within the Directorate, and the post holder will work with the Clinical Director to lead and be accountable for ensuring services are patient focused and effective, for achieving national and local key performance indicators and standards, and for delivering the transformation expected of the hub of a large pathology network.

The post holder will provide visible leadership to all staff within the directorate and support the Clinical Director in delivering the strategic plan for the Division.

The post holder will also work with the Divisional Director and the Divisional Management Team to ensure the services within the Clinical Directorate meet the required objectives.

As a senior leader within the South 4 Pathology Partnership the role will also participate in leadership and delivery across South 4 and have accountability to the South 4 Board.

The Deputy Clinical Director will work closely with the Directorate Manager (DM) and the Clinical Director. This team will deliver on the Directorate priorities in conjunction with respective Service Leads, biomedical and clinical scientists, administration and other professional colleagues.

Job responsibilities
The South 4 Pathology Partnership is one of 27 pathology networks across England established to deliver cost savings, improve quality, efficiency, and resilience, and remove unwarranted variation in pathology services. It serves a population of approximately 2 million patients, with around 1,000 staff delivering more than 35 million tests every year. The partnership comprises four NHS trusts working collaboratively on a hub and spoke basis: Oxford University Hospitals (lead), Buckinghamshire Healthcare, Great Western Hospitals, and Milton Keynes University Hospital.

As a senior leader of the OUH Pathology team, the Deputy Clinical Director will support the design and transformation of services across South 4, contributing clinical leadership, credible knowledge and experience of successful service delivery.

As with all Clinical Directorates in the Trust, we are responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of services within our area in line with Trust strategies, policies and procedures. In addition, as the hub of the South 4 Pathology Partnership we have a responsibility to deliver an integrated service along with the South 4 partners to achieve productivity, resilience, and high quality for pathology delivered to patients via any of the South 4 Trusts. We currently are in a process of transformation of service delivery, having put in place enablers including a shared laboratory information management system, digital histopathology, and joint procurements.
