Job summary
We seek an ambitious, experienced and motivated Clinical Perfusion Scientist to take a key role in supporting the Chief Clinical Perfusionist alongside a Deputy currently in post in the provision, management, and development of all perfusion and related services. This is an exciting time in our service as we look toward expanding our cardiac surgery service. The post holder will play a significant role in contributing to the long-term planning and organisation of service delivery within the directorate, representing Clinical Perfusion at Directorate meetings and helping ensure the service meets its professional, clinical, and performance targets. The role requires a high level of clinical expertise, including the management of cardiopulmonary bypass and associated technologies to support cardiac surgery and other interventions, participation in on-call and late duty rotas, and a strong commitment to patient safety, clinical excellence, and service improvement. The department is committed to delivering outstanding patient care and fostering a supportive environment for staff development.

The successful applicant will have full UK registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists and have at least five years experience post qualification or is able to demonstrate suitable exposure.

Main duties of the job
The Deputy Chief Clinical Perfusion Scientist will be responsible for:
  • Supporting the Chief Clinical Perfusion Manager to oversee the operational delivery of the service, deputising for the Chief Clinical Perfusion Manager, when required.
  • Providing strong leadership, effective management and professional advice, to enable high quality patient centred services to be delivered to our patients
  • Organising facilities and staff to enable the directorate to meet its contractual and professional targets
  • Delivering safe, efficient and reliable perfusion services in partnership with the lead surgeon and anaesthetist

Application form
Essential
  • Minimum 5 years working within the NHS at a senior managerial or clinical level
  • Minimum 10 years Clinical Perfusion experience
  • Previous experience of staff development and performance management
  • Expert knowledge of highly specialised clinical perfusion and cardiac surgical techniques, e.g., paediatric cardiopulmonary bypass, VAVD, VAD, ECMO, advanced cardiac venting technology and myocardial and cerebral preservation
  • Post Graduate Diploma - Clinical Perfusion Science
  • Professional registration - Licentiate member or Fellow of the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland (LCCP or FCCP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.
  • Highly developed influencing skills, to be used, in the main, with consultant colleagues and with senior health care professionals.
  • Good analytical and judgemental skills applied to interpretation of clinical data and results.
  • Be flexible in leading change to altered and evolving service requirements.
  • oEnsure Trust's clinical governance requirements for the clinical perfusion service are satisfied.

  • oKnowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
