Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Hepatology Specialist Nursing Team as a FibroScan Technician and Band 3 Nursing Assistant. The post holder will play a key role in delivering a developing FibroScan (transient elastography) service, supporting the early diagnosis and management of patients with suspected liver disease.

Our expanding service provides care for patients attending gastroenterology and hepatology day-case services, including inflammatory bowel disease infusions, blood transfusions, venesection clinics, and other ambulatory treatments.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centred care across Outpatient Departments at the John Radcliffe and Horton General Hospitals, as well as the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Day Case Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Applicants should be organised, adaptable, able to work independently, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

This is a new role within an evolving service, and the post holder will be expected to work flexibly across a Monday to Friday rota.

Full FibroScan training and competency development will be provided. Previous FibroScan experience is not essential, making this an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills within a supportive and innovative hepatology service.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality, patient-centred care to a diverse range of patients. As a member of the team in this enhanced role, they will work closely with registered practitioners to deliver a high standard of care to patients, their families, and carers in a safe, supportive environment, exercising a high degree of autonomy within their scope of practice and without the need for direct supervision.

The successful candidate will be motivated, organised, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will enjoy working collaboratively within a team, perform well under pressure, and demonstrate a flexible approach to meeting service needs.

The post holder will contribute to the development and maintenance of services provided to patients and support the safe, efficient, and effective running of the department. They will ensure that the dignity, privacy, and confidentiality of all patients are maintained at all times.

In addition, the post holder will be responsible for completing and maintaining a portfolio of generic and role-specific clinical competencies and/or the Care Certificate, as required. They will actively engage in the appraisal process, regularly reviewing their progress with their manager, and will demonstrate an understanding of their own responsibilities, scope of practice, and accountability, always working within the limits of their competence and capabilities.

About us
