Job summary
Working as part of the laboratory team, using digital and analog workflows, the post-holder will be required to deliver, maintain and develop a high quality and dynamic Restorative and Maxillofacial laboratory service for the benefit of our patients at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job
Responsibility for supporting the Laboratory Manager/Chief Technician in the daily operational management of the Maxillofacial, Orthodontic and Restorative laboratory.

Exhibiting highly specialist dental technology, judgement and analytical skills, the post-holder will be required to provide a comprehensive technological service in primarily Restorative (Prosthodontic) and Maxillofacial specialities with some Orthodontics in the provision of patient-centred surgical and reconstructive care.

Employ conventional and digital design and manufacture of bespoke complex appliances/prostheses for the Restorative, Maxillofacial and Orthodontic Services.

Engage with the wider clinical teams at OUH, including colleagues from ENT, Plastics and Ocular.

Job description
Job Summary
To deliver, maintain and develop a high quality and dynamic technical service for Restorative Dentistry, Maxillofacial and Orthodontic patients at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. To assist in delivering the digital modernisation programme in the clinical and technical laboratory workflows for the benefit of patients.

Management and Leadership
Responsibility for supporting the Laboratory manager/Chief Technician in the daily operational management of the Maxillofacial, Orthodontic and Restorative laboratory. This will involve mentoring and guiding junior laboratory technicians. The post holder will provide necessary leadership to this team and wider department with specific emphasis in the digitisation of patient care.

Clinical/Technical
  • Exhibit highly specialist dental technology skills, providing a comprehensive technological service in primarily Restorative/Prosthodontic and Maxillofacial specialities with some Orthodontics in the provision of patient-centred surgical and reconstructive care.
  • Use judgement and analytical skills to interpret, understand and to assess suitability of requested work and provide technical options and solutions.
  • Employ conventional and digital design and manufacture of bespoke complex appliances/prostheses for the Restorative, Maxillofacial and Orthodontic Services
  • Engage with the wider clinical teams at OUH, including colleagues from ENT, Plastics and Ocular.

Communication
  • Committed to working and engaging constructively with members of the Restorative Dentistry, Maxillofacial and Orthodontic teams
  • Provide, receive, and analyse complex and sensitive information and make judgements based on the information.
  • Attend and engage in regular departmental Audit and Clinical Governance meetings, as well as participating in regional audit and study groups.
  • Be able to liaise with service users and colleagues throughout the Trust where appropriate.
  • Be able to work with and support other staff, patients and their relatives to deliver compassionate and personalised care.
  • Regularly liaise with the Laboratory Manager in the digitisation of the clinical and technical service.

Policy and Service Development
  • To engage and assist in the delivery of the digital modernisation programme in the clinical and technical laboratory workflows for the benefit of patients
  • To assist in the development of plans, processes and departmental policies to ensure that the Trust conforms to the requirements of relevant legislation.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of statutory regulatory policies and guidance from external bodies which may impact the laboratory service.

Administrative
  • Responsibility for timely and accurate record keeping in accordance with statutory and professional legislation.
  • Responsibility for the creation, maintenance and storage of records in accordance with Trust policy, GDPR and other statutory bodies.

Professional Development
  • Participate in mandatory and statutory training requirements as set down by the Trust and national regulatory bodies.
  • Identify personal training needs, research and development within the context of improving patient care.
  • Demonstrate continuous professional development

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered with the GDC
  • BSc or equivalent qualification
  • Advanced qualification in Restorative/Maxillofacial Technology
  • Experience of working at a Senior level in a hospital laboratory - min 3 yrs
  • Experience of working with digital workflows in the laboratory

Desirable
  • Registered with the IMPT
  • Experienced in working as a Maxillofacial technician - minimum 3 yrs
