Job summary
We are inviting applicants for the post of Senior Ophthalmic Imaging Specialist to join our team and be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, high-quality ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic service. As a senior member of the team, the post holder will provide expertise to support the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients with a wide range of ocular conditions.

The role requires extensive specialist knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, physiology, pathology, and advanced diagnostic imaging techniques. The post holder will be responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic results, maintaining imaging databases, ensuring equipment functionality, and supporting the integration of new technologies and service developments.

The post holder will prioritise their workload, manage patient flow efficiently and ensure patients receive safe, timely, and compassionate care in accordance with Trust policies and clinical standards.

The role also has significant leadership responsibilities, supporting the Head of Department in day-to-day management and deputising in their absence.A key aspect of the position is the education, supervision, and mentoring of staff.

The role combines advanced clinical expertise, technical excellence, leadership, education, and service development to ensure the delivery of a safe, efficient, innovative, and patient-centred ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic service.

The general working hours for the position are 08:30-16:30 Monday - Friday.

Main duties of the job

• Provide a highly efficient and readily accessible ophthalmic imaging & diagnostic service to all sub-specialties within Ophthalmology.
• To provide core and specialist clinical, technical and imaging expertise as an integral member of the multi-specialty healthcare team.
• To deliver specialist ophthalmic imaging services requiring highly developed theoretical and practical knowledge.
• To provide expert opinion that contributes to the diagnosis, treatment or education of the ophthalmology patients seen.
• To be able to prioritise and plan their workload and have the ability to work independently.
• To support the Head of Department in service development, ensuring that high clinical standards are maintained.
• To deputise for the Head of Department during periods of annual leave and absence.
• To manage the patient flow efficiently with in the clinical area and address any issues swiftly to avoid long waiting times for patients.
• To perform, accurately record and report patient observations.
• To undertake clinical audit as and when required.
• The post holder will have the knowledge and skills to deliver individual patient care to the standards defined by the OUH protocols and policies.
• To have a working knowledge of computer systems and programmes and be responsible for the maintenance of imaging databases.
• To maintain their own professional development (CPD).

Person Specification
Essential

• (GREG) Certificate in OCT Capture.
• (GREG) University Diploma in Optical Coherence Tomography interpretation.
• UK Level 6 qualification or the willingness to enrol on to the BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science (Ophthalmic Imaging) upon appointment.
• Substantial experience in an Ophthalmic Imaging Specialist role
• A comprehensive understanding of anatomy and physiology of the eye

Desirable

• BSc or MSc in associated study.
• Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate.
• Current registration with the AHCS Healthcare Science Practitioner Register.
• Trust policies & Procedures Working knowledge of hospital systems
• Demonstrable knowledge of retinal pathology, it's effect and treatment pathways
