Come and join us in Dermatology at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford

Specialist Nurse Practitioner

Band 6

37.5 hours per week - Full Time

24.5 hours per week - Part Time

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in Dermatology Outpatients with a dynamic group of of nurses and doctors that positively push the boundaries of nursing practice. We have an excellent track record of developing and training nurses to a high level.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate and further develop sound clinical dermatology skills. You will be expected to support key areas of dermatology including undertaking nurse led clinics and supporting patients by providing specialist treatment following diagnosis of dermatological conditions. The role will involve undertaking investigations, administering medication, providing treatment and educational support to patients and the nursing team whilst working alongside medical, nursing and pharmacy staff.

Applicants will be expected to to have completed competencies in a dermatology setting. The post holder will will need to to demonstrate sound management skills, to manage their own workload and that of junior staff.

Main duties of the the job
  • Develop and provide comprehensive clinical care, specialist advice, and support to patients in dermatology service.
  • Work as an autonomous, specialist practitioner alongside members of the the multidisciplinary team in dermatology service.
  • Service specific skills, tasks or procedures required, but not not limited to per British association of dermatologists and RCN nursing role descriptors) are making clinical decisions for a defined patient group, lower risk skin procedure such as as punch biopsy of low-risk sites, photodynamic therapy, disease /therapy focused nurse led f/u clinics with protocols.   • Develop and deliver a high-quality practitioner led clinic in in dermatology service.
  • Role will include line management and and/or supervision of Band 5 Nurses and Care support workers in the service.
  • Be flexible within the dermatology service to ensure appropriate specialist cover.

Person Specification
Essential
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) First level degree (HEI Level 5 or 6) in undergraduate base profession Demonstrable evidence of ability to study at Level 7 (either previous Level 6 or level 7 study), or willingness to submit academic piece for assessment if required For Apprenticeship training pathways only - GCSE/Level 2 English and Maths or equivalent Independent/Non-medical Prescriber.
  • Excellent skills in dermatology (completion of competencies)
  • willing to complete or in progress of completing post grad dermatology course

Desirable
  • Completed post grad dermatology course
  • leadership course or qualification
