Job summary
We are excited to offer a part-time Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist post (0.6 WTE, 22.5 hours per week) within our specialist neurorehabilitation and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) teams at the Oxford Centre for Enablement (OCE).

This unique split post includes two days per week at the OCE, working across our inpatient and outpatient neurorehabilitation services, and one day per week in the community supporting the AAC services in Oxfordshire.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your specialist skills in neurorehabilitation and AAC while working within a supportive multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care to patients with complex brain injuries and long-term neuro-disability.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a Speech and Language Therapist working across neurorehabilitation, acquired brain injury, and long-term neurological conditions. They will provide specialist assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation for people with complex brain injuries across inpatient and outpatient settings, and lead service development in this area.

One day per week will be dedicated to the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) service within the Specialist Disability Service (SDS), providing predominantly domiciliary-based assessment and intervention for adults with acquired communication difficulties across Oxfordshire. The remainder of the role will be based at the Oxford Centre for Enablement (OCE).

Job responsibilities

• Utilize specialist clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and manage a specialist caseload of adults with complex acquired communication disorders and dysphagia as a result of acquired brain injury and progressive neurological illnesses.
• To provide specialist AAC assessment and intervention to adults with communication difficulties across Oxfordshire, including developing personalised high- and low tech communication aid systems.
• Select and deliverhigh-quality assessments and evidence-based interventions to ensure effective therapy.
• Work collaboratively within themultidisciplinary team (MDT), actively participating in MDT meetings to support therapy planning and patient discharges.
• Independently manage aclinical caseload, prioritizing workload and making autonomous decisions regarding patient care.
• Providesecond opinions to colleagues as needed.
• Contribute toaudit, quality improvement, and service development initiatives within the specialty and across the wider SLT Department as needed.
• Take responsibility for providingclinical teaching and supervision to other healthcare professionals as required and with support from the Clinical Lead SLT for Neurorehabilitation. This may include hosting students on practice placement, delivering ward-based teaching and training, and supervision of junior colleagues and assistants.
• Provide necessary cover for the caseloads of other Speech and Language Therapists during periods of annual / sick leave.
• Collaborate with the SLTs across the stroke pathway to ensure continuity of care. This includes SLT colleagues working in the Acute Stroke Team, Early Supported Discharge (ESD) and the Oxfordshire Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (OSRU).
• Engage in continued professional development to improve and further develop specialist skills through training, support and independent study.
• To demonstrate good problem-solving skills with IT equipment.
