Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen to apply for the post of Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with a specialist interest in TMJ Surgery, based at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a replacement substantive post and is a 10.0 PA job plan.
The successful candidate will be joining a busy Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department which provides services to patients in Oxfordshire and on-call services to the wider Thames Valley. Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a dedicated Major Trauma Centre for the Thames Valley Trauma Network. The contract would be held with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, but candidates may need to visit peripheral units for service needs.
The successful candidate would be expected to be involved in both general OMFS work and specialist TMJ work. The candidate is expected to contribute to the development of pathways for TMJ patients at local, regional, and national levels. The exclusive nature of the subspeciality interest reflects the commitment needed to this subspeciality in this job. The appointee will be expected to participate in the on-call rota and may be required to work on any other site as required by the OUH Trust in the future.
The candidate must have full or temporary GMC registration and be on, or within 6 months of eligibility of inclusion, on the specialist register in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Main duties of the jobThe postholder's duties will be based mainly at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, although there may be a requirement to visit other hospitals within the Trust (Churchill Hospital, Oxford, Nuffield Centre for Orthopaedics, Oxford and Horton Hospital, Banbury) or to some of the other hospitals within the Thames Valley (Buckinghamshire, Berkshire or Wiltshire). It is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations

Job responsibilitiesThe successful candidates will be expected to actively participate in the supervision and training of Specialist Registrars, Foundation year doctors, and Dental Core trainees. The post holder is expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive hospital Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service, achieving compliance with 18 weeks and other targets set by the Trust and nationally. The department provides the full remit of OMFS services, and the postholder will be expected to be part of the team delivering general OMFS services. They would also be expected to provide a general and specialist TMJ service for OMFS within the Trust and work closely with Ophthalmology, ENT and Neurosurgery to deliver a high-quality service. The candidate is expected to contribute to supporting TMJ related services in the region with developing local pathways and guidelines for referring clinicians. Education to primary care clinicians will be seen as a contribution towards service delivery.
QualificationsEssential- Full GMC with licence to practice
- Eligibility for full registration with the GDC
- Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, or equivalent
- GMC Specialist Registration or eligibility for CCT in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery within 6 months of date of AAC
- ATLS provider

- Experience of providing general on-call in OMFS
Desirable- Successful completion of an SAC approved 5-year training program in OMFS or equivalent or within 6 months of completing
