Description

Job summary
Village Health Group is looking for an enthusiastic, caring and motivated Phlebotomist to join our friendly and supportive primary care team, delivering a busy sit-and-wait blood-taking service.

This role suits someone with venepuncture training and demonstrated competence who can work accurately and efficiently while providing compassionate, patient-centred care. GP surgery experience is desirable, but we welcome applicants with phlebotomy experience gained in other healthcare settings.

About the role
You will work closely with our Practice Nurses, HCAs, GPs and wider team, helping maintain an effective flow through the clinic without compromising patient safety or attention to detail.
  • Confirm patient identity, check the requested blood tests and obtain informed consent before collecting samples.
  • Perform venepuncture safely, following practice protocols and working within assessed competence.
  • Reassure anxious patients and recognise when a patient becomes unwell, seeking clinical assistance promptly.
  • Check that the correct samples are collected for all relevant requests; clarify missing, duplicate or unclear requests with the appropriate team member rather than guessing.
  • Label, package, store and process samples accurately and arrange timely dispatch to the laboratory.

Main duties of the job
You will also maintain accurate records and specimen logs, liaise with laboratory staff and keep the clinical area clean, safe and stocked. Experience of SystmOne and ICE is desirable; training in our systems and procedures will be provided.

Hours and location
Part time, 22.5 hours per week, worked over five days, 08:30-13:00.

A full UK driving licence and access to suitable transport are required, as you may be required to work at either East Leake or Keyworth according to service needs.

About you
  • Trained and competent in venepuncture, with a caring and reassuring approach.
  • Able to remain calm, organised and accurate in a busy sit-and-wait clinic.
  • Confident communicating with patients, colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • IT literate, with accurate record-keeping skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to work within your competence, recognise concerns and seek support promptly.
  • Committed to confidentiality, patient dignity, infection prevention and safeguarding.
  • Reliable, flexible and willing to maintain and develop your skills.
