Job summaryBurlington Primary Care is looking for a lead practice nurse who wants to shape something: to design how nursing is delivered, grow a team around them, and leave a real mark on the health of one of Ipswich's most diverse communities. This permanent role is offered on either a full-time or part-time basis.
We are a well-established, four-partner NHS practice based in the heart of Ipswich, serving a population that reflects the full complexity of modern primary care. Our patient population is genuinely diverse, with many patients for whom English is not a first language. Caring for this community is one of the most rewarding aspects of working here, and it is why our nurses tend to be people who are drawn to work that really matters.
You will work alongside GP partners who are clinically experienced across palliative care, diabetes, care of the elderly, women's health, and lifestyle medicine, and who genuinely want nursing to lead. You will have the authority, the support, and the space to do it.
Main duties of the job- Lead and develop the nursing and HCA team: recruitment, induction, appraisal, and mentoring
- Deliver and oversee high-quality clinical care across a broad range of long-term conditions
- Design and implement nursing protocols, care pathways, and service improvements
- Drive clinical governance, CQC compliance, and quality improvement
- Represent nursing at practice leadership level alongside the GP partners and practice manager
- Contribute to PCN objectives and collaborative working across the wider system
- Champion lifestyle medicine and prevention-focused approaches to long-term condition management
- Support and develop innovative models of care delivery, including group consultations
- Champion culturally sensitive, accessible care for a multilingual patient population
About usOver the last 50 years, we have built a practice with roots in the community, a team that knows its patients and a culture that takes both clinical excellence and staff wellbeing seriously. We are CQC-rated Good. We are forward-thinking, committed to innovation and to the personal touch that makes general practice what it is.
Our partners bring deep extensive expertise across primary care. We believe that prevention is as important as treatment and are actively building services that reflect that. Our MDT includes nurses, HCAs, paramedic, pharmacists, pharmacy technician, GP assistant and long-term-condition care coordinators. We are based in Ipswich town centre, with on-site parking for staff.
Why join us- Build your own team: genuine authority to recruit, develop, and lead the nursing workforce
- Clinical breadth: a complex, diverse patient list to stretch and reward you
- A seat at the table: nursing leadership valued and visible at partner level
- Prevention-first culture: we take lifestyle medicine seriously and want nursing to lead on it
- Innovative ways of working: group consultations already in use; space to develop and expand new models of care
- Innovation welcomed: we want your ideas, not just your compliance
- Investment in you: prescribing, leadership qualifications and specialist interests actively supported
- Work-life balance: we take staff wellbeing seriously, not just as a line in an advert
- Stability and legacy: over 50 years of community roots and a committed permanent team
- Competitive salary and NHS pension
Person SpecificationWe are looking for a confident, experienced, registered nurse, with a solid background in general practice. Experienced in long-term condition management, you will have led or supervised clinical colleagues before, finding it rewarding. We are looking for someone with vision: someone who looks at a nursing team and sees what it could become; someone comfortable sitting with GP partners and making the case for nursing; someone who wants the responsibility, not just the title. You will bring cultural intelligence and commitment to equity. Our patient population is one of our greatest strengths, and the right candidate will see it that way too.
