We are seeking an enthusiastic Specialist Nurse within our Community Gynaecology Team to undertake routine ring pessary exchanges for patients with established ring pessaries as management of their uterovaginal prolapse. There is also scope to undertake assessment/ring pessary fittings for new patients. This is a permanent post and we are seeking 8 hours per week. The purpose of this role is to:
- Undertake routine ring pessary exchanges for patients with established ring pessaries as management of their uterovaginal prolapse on the current Community Gynae Patient Initiated Follow Up List.
To deliver high-quality, autonomous, evidence-based nursing care in a clinical setting. The Experienced Nurse plays a key role in complex patient assessments, long-term condition management, clinical decision-making, and supporting operational excellence. The role significantly contributes to patient safety, service quality, clinical leadership, and the mentoring of less experienced colleagues.
Main duties of the job- Professional Provide routine ring pessary replacement, including assessment, safe replacement, management of complications, documentation, patient education and follow-up.
- Managerial Deliver high-quality nursing care, maintain accurate records and confidentiality, manage consultations, and contribute to service development and effective workload management.
- Educational Maintain professional competence through appraisal, audit, quality improvement, and support the education of colleagues.

Job responsibilities- Professional: For routine ring replacements for patients with established ring pessaries in situ for prolapse management. This includes clinical assessment and examination, safe removal and exchange of ring pessary and able to identify any complications and action/manage accordingly.
- To ensure contemporaneous medical note keeping during consultations. And to engage with community gynaecology coding following Face-Face appointments and tasks to CGS admin for PIFU 6m Follow-up.
- Provide the patient with relevant information e.g Ring pessary Patient Information Leaflet.
- Recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
- Be able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
- Obtain and document informed consent (either written or verbal).
- Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
- Communicate effectively with other members of the primary health care team.
- Preserve confidentiality.
- Any other duties considered relevant to the post.
- Managerial: Assist patients to identify their health needs.
- Maintain accurate records in line with practice policy and NMC Guidelines using appropriate computer software.
- Contribute to the assessment of service needs.
- Responsible for the maintenance of equipment and stock control: including refrigeration, vaccine ordering, single use equipment, general treatment room equipment and stock and emergency rugs and equipment.

Role Accountabilities- Advanced Patient Assessment & Clinical Care: Undertakes comprehensive nursing assessments, clinical observations and treatment plans within professional scope. Manages a caseload of patients autonomously, including those with complex needs or long-term conditions. Provides advanced wound care, chronic disease monitoring, childhood and adult immunisations, ECGs, cervical screening, and other enhanced skills (depending on competency). Escalates concerns appropriately while exercising professional judgement and decision-making authority.
- Clinical Decision-Making & Risk Management: Applies clinical reasoning to identify deterioration and make informed decisions. Uses evidence-based practice and guidelines to plan and deliver care. Contributes to clinical risk management through incident reporting, safety checks and proactive risk identification. Provides support during emergencies, ensuring safe escalation and rapid response.
- Health Promotion, Patient Education & Self-Management Support: Provides tailored health education and lifestyle advice to patients and families. Supports behaviour-change interventions such as smoking cessation, weight management or medication adherence. Helps patients understand and manage their own conditions, improving long-term health outcomes. Identifies safeguarding concerns and signposts to appropriate support or protective measures.
- Clinical Workflow & Service Efficiency: Ensures effective time management and patient flow. Supports coordination between clinical and administrative teams to optimise service delivery. Works confidently within protocols and contributes to service development or pathway improvements. Participates in audits, clinical reviews and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications- Essential: Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration, Relevant recognised nursing qualification (e.g. Diploma or Degree in Nursing), Evidence of post-registration training relevant to primary care or community nursing.
Skills and Knowledge- Essential: Competence in basic patient assessment, observations and clinical documentation. Good understanding of infection prevention, safeguarding and patient safety principles. Knowledge of NHS primary care systems and clinical IT systems.
