Description

Priory Hospital North London is seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our established Addiction Treatment Programme, working as a self-employed private practitioner. This is an opportunity to develop your private practice within one of Priory’s leading specialist mental health and addiction services, working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality, consultant-led care to individuals experiencing a range of substance and behavioural addictions.

As a self-employed Consultant Psychiatrist, you’ll have the opportunity to build and manage your own private patient caseload while benefiting from the infrastructure, clinical environment and established reputation of Priory Hospital North London. We can deliver intensive support for a range of addictions, including alcohol and drug addictions, as well as a number of addictive behaviours such as gambling, internet and shopping addictions.

What you’ll be doing
As a self-employed Consultant Psychiatrist within our Addiction Treatment Programme, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while developing your private practice within Priory Hospital North London. You’ll be:
  • Providing specialist psychiatric assessments, diagnosis and treatment for individuals experiencing substance and behavioural addictions, including those with co-existing mental health conditions.
  • Managing and developing your own private patient caseload, providing ongoing consultant-led care throughout each patient’s treatment journey.
  • Developing individualised treatment plans and reviewing patient progress to ensure care remains responsive to their needs.
  • Working collaboratively with our experienced multidisciplinary team, including therapists, psychologists, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contributing to safe and effective detoxification and addiction treatment pathways, where clinically appropriate.
  • Maintaining clear, accurate clinical records and working in line with relevant professional standards, clinical governance requirements and Priory policies.
  • Building strong therapeutic relationships with patients and, where appropriate, their families or support networks.
  • Contributing your specialist expertise to the wider clinical team and supporting a collaborative approach to delivering excellent patient outcomes.

As a self-employed private practitioner, you’ll retain the independence of running your own practice while benefiting from Priory’s established clinical environment, infrastructure and multidisciplinary support.

Our work is rewarding but can be challenging, so resilience is key. No two days are the same! Your natural empathy will help you support others through both the highs and lows. The successful candidate will be fully registered with the GMC and expected to provide evidence of their registration when required. You should have significant experience working within multidisciplinary teams and demonstrate strong leadership in coordinating care, discharge planning, and liaising with commissioners. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building trust with patients and colleagues. You must be confident working autonomously, have strong problem-solving abilities, and be able to apply evidence-based practice in a practical, patient-centred manner.
