Description

Lead Clinician – Scottish Trauma Network
3 PAs per week
This post is initially for a 1-year appointment, with the scope to extend up to 3 years.

This vacancy is only open to applicants currently employed by a NHS Board in Scotland.

On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.

As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland(PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.

About the Organisation:
PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.

We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.

The Post:
In line with Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates guidance, National Services Directorate (NSD), part of Public Services Delivery Scotland is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Lead Clinician for the Scottish Trauma Network.

This is a key strategic role in promoting and driving forward the development of an effective, integrated, multidisciplinary service for the care of patients suffering from a traumatic injury in Scotland. In this sessional appointment the postholder will work closely with clinical and other stakeholders and NSD colleagues.

The Candidate:
The post is open to medics, nurses, allied health professionals (AHPs) and relevant healthcare professionals who are leaders in their clinical field, with experience in the provision and development of major trauma services. A proven record in leading change, ability to work across traditional organisational, geographical and professional boundaries and a demonstrable understanding of the ethos of national networks are essential.

Applicants must have a current substantive role as an NHS Scotland employee and have the support of their Clinical Director for this post to be incorporated into their job plan. The employing NHS Board will be recompensed for the agreed sessional commitment on the basis of evidence of actual backfill costs incurred to release the individual to fulfil the Lead Clinician role requirements.

Location and Working Pattern:
Flexible Location
3 PAs per week.

PSD Scotland is a remote-friendly employer with colleagues based throughout Scotland. We support hybrid and office-based working arrangements where possible and welcome discussions about alternative working patterns during the application process.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post in which you will be employed.

Benefits:

We are committed to supporting staff health, wellbeing and development, and offer a range of learning and development opportunities to promote diversity, inclusion and positive mental health.
