Job summary
We are looking for an experienced Research Nurse / Research Practitioner (CRP) - Part-time (24 hours per week) to join the Research and Innovation team at Queen Victoria Hospital.

We undertake work across a range of specialties, which means plenty of variety in the role - from questionnaire studies right up to full scale clinical drug/device trials. You'll need good organisational skills, high attention to detail, and considerable experience working in clinical research.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated research nurse or practitioner who can work independently while contributing actively to a supportive multidisciplinary research team.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will coordinate a portfolio of clinical research studies across the Trust's specialist services. They will identify and recruit eligible participants, support informed consent, coordinate research-related assessments and follow-up, and maintain accurate study documentation and data.

Working closely with principal investigators, clinical teams, support departments, sponsors and research networks, the postholder will help ensure that studies are set up and delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the protocol, Good Clinical Practice and applicable research governance requirements.

Job responsibilities
The postholder will:

• Coordinate the research-related care of participants enrolled in a designated portfolio of studies.
• Identify potentially eligible participants through clinics, operating lists, clinical referrals.
• Provide clear study information to patients, families and carers and undertake informed consent where trained, delegated and competent to do so.
• Coordinate protocol-required assessments, investigations, sample collection, treatment and follow-up.
• Collect, process, store and dispatch biological samples according to study protocols.
• Monitor participants for adverse events and ensure that safety information is documented, escalated and reported within required timelines.
• Maintain accurate source documentation, case report forms, electronic study systems and local research databases.
• Maintain inspection-ready study documentation and support monitoring visits, audits and inspections.
• Lead study feasibility, set-up and initiation, including liaison with principal investigators, sponsors and supporting departments.
• Monitor recruitment performance, identify barriers and contribute to actions that improve patient access and study delivery.
• Promote research awareness among clinical teams.
• Deliver studies to a consistently high standard in accordance with the approved protocol, ICH Good Clinical Practice, applicable UK Clinical Trials Regulations, the UK Policy Framework

• Competency in phlebotomy, ECG and other relevant clinical activities

Qualifications
Essential

• NMC registration, relevant professional registration (eg. CRP accreditation) or equivalent experience
• Evidence of continuing professional development

• Experience of delivering research studies including CTIMPs and device trials
• Experience in new study feasibility and set-up
• Experience of dealing with patients and families in distress
• Experience of working with different study databases and clinical research management system (eg. EDGE)
• Experience of using MS office package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

• Experience of the care of cancer patients
• Experience in ophthalmic care
• Experience in plastic surgery specialty
