Job summary
We are currently recruiting Registered Nurses who are looking for flexible working opportunities or additional hours to join our Nurse Bank. As part of a Trust recognised for delivering outstanding patient care, you will have the opportunity to work across our orthopaedic, surgical, medical and rehabilitation wards.

Under current Home Office Immigration Rules, this role does not meet the UK Visas and Immigration criteria and the position is not therefore eligible for sponsorship. Applications from candidates that require skilled worker sponsorship will NOT be shortlisted.

Main duties of the job
Previous experience of working in a care setting would be desirable. You will demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach, be able to deliver high standards of care to our patients and follow defined protocols relating to patient care.

Candidates are advised that if they are offered the opportunity to be registered on our bank of temporary workers they will be required to attend 4 days' of Induction and work 4 paid shadow shifts on different areas prior to being able to book shifts - this is to provide our temporary workers with support and confidence.

Job responsibilities

• Work at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviours, revalidation and relevant professional guidelines, independently / autonomously and at times without direct supervision.
• Be accountable for their own professional actions and those delegated to others.
• Ensure accurate assessment of patient care needs, development of care plans, implementing and evaluating care based on the patient needs.
• Achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training; develop and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice (i.e. venepuncture, cannulation, ECG, urethral catheterisation and any other relevant duties).
• Respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required.
• Take charge of the practice setting as required.
• Assume responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the nominated line / shift coordinator. This may include representing the ward at meetings, link nurse responsibilities, audit, clinical governance initiatives and supervision and role competency assessments for unregistered staff and students.
• Contribute to the development of service and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and outcome and ensure standards of care are monitored and maintained within the organisation.
• Delegate appropriately to and supervise the work of other staff registered or unregistered and students.
• Assist with the induction and orientation and subsequent development of junior staff within the ward or department.
• Maintain accurate nursing records ensuring all documentation is completed accurately and promptly.
• Administer medications as described by local policy and in line with the NMCs standards for medicines management.
• Adhere to organisational policies and procedures.
• In accordance with individual patient care, and utilising appropriate computer software and/or monitoring equipment, on a daily basis undertake and record patients observations.
• Undertake if not already done so the mentorship program supported by The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital and local universities.
• Handle cash, valuables and maintain stock control in the area of work, this may include being a authorised signatory for small payment on behalf of the department including authorisation of time sheets for temporary staff, ordering supplies on behalf of the department and handling patients valuables.

Qualifications/Training
Essential

• Current or pending NMC Registration in the case of newly qualified nurses.
• Diploma/Degree (BSc) in Nursing or equivalent experience.
• Have gained or willing to undertake mentorship course.
• GCSE or equivalent in English.

Desirable

• MSc or working towards

Experience
Essential

• Recent clinical experience with in a healthcare setting.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development

Desirable

• Recent orthopaedic experience
• Recent acute hospital experience
