Job summary
We are recruiting to two 0.5 WTE Band 7 Digital Clinical Specialist posts.

These are split roles for registered clinicians who will:
  • Work 0.5 WTE in the Digital Clinical Specialist role
  • Maintain 0.5 WTE in clinical practice

The post holders will play a key role in the Trust's digital transformation, applying user-centred design to support the implementation and adoption of digital solutions that improve the safety and reliability of care.

You will lead and contribute to the design and implementation of digital systems, ensuring they are clinically safe, efficient, and aligned with the Trust's digital plans. The role includes providing expert clinical informatics advice and working with stakeholders to involve patients and clinicians in the development and evaluation of digital initiatives.

You will support the integration of digital solutions within the Electronic Patient Record, promote continuous improvement, and help embed sustainable digital working practices. Strong leadership, collaboration, and engagement skills are essential to build effective relationships across the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for clinicians with a passion for digital innovation who wish to improve services while remaining in clinical practice.

Main duties of the job
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Knowledge, Skills and Experience required
Leadership
  • Lead the clinical digital design for clinical pathways promoting convergence, standardisation and alignment of processes and practice across the trust
  • Maintain Clinical Subject Matter expertise for specific digital systems relating to named clinical pathways, ensuring design is optimised, design principles and decisions are appropriately documented and reviewed, and new functionality is evaluated
  • Promote digitally enabled transformation of clinical services to enhance patient safety, quality outcomes, and experience
  • Provide the evaluation of the impact of digital health services on clinical practice, identifying and measuring benefits, and monitoring for unintended outcomes and mitigating issues
  • Share and promote the achievements of the Digital Clinical Team
  • Responsible for clinical governance and safety processes for digital systems and electronic patient records are embedded into practice including training as a Clinical Safety Officer.
  • Represent the Digital Clinical Team in senior leadership team meetings, advocating for technology adoption, data quality, and process standardisation
  • Work collaboratively within the Health Informatics team to enable the delivery of the trusts Digital Enabling Plan

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential
  • Clinician with current registration, e.g. NMC, GMC, HCPC
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous learning and application in practice
  • Post-registration qualification or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience at postgraduate diploma level.

Desirable
  • Accredited Clinical Safety Officer or willing to work towards attaining this qualification
  • Digital health qualification / training
  • Change management / transformation qualification
  • Project management qualification

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Demonstrable experience of clinical systems
  • Knowledge of change process methodologies
  • Experience of the development and delivery of training
  • Understanding of health policy and how IT can be used to improve operational and clinical processes for clinical colleagues including doctors, nursing and AHPs
  • Experience of delivering practice changes or quality improvement projects
  • Experienced healthcare practitioner with experience of leading teams or people
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multi-professional teams and service users

Desirable
  • Experience of patient safety and clinical risk management, including awareness of patient safety risks and the pitfalls of implementing clinical IT systems
  • Understanding of NHS national digital priorities and standards

  • Develops themselves and the team, with a commitment to develop and educate clinical colleagues

Skills and Abilities
Essential
  • Able to deal with difficult issues sensitively and diplomatically
  • Detailed understanding of professional and clinical standards and policies
  • Highly computer literate
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including excellent presentation and report writing
  • Ability to engage and motivate colleagues and other stakeholders, gain trust and confidence, and provide leadership
  • Excellent persuasion and negotiating skills, with the ability to deal effectively with challenging situations and people
  • Able to analyse and interpret complex information and present it to non experts in an understandable way
  • Ability to present to large mixed audiences in an engaging manner
  • A good self-starter, able to work autonomously
