Job summary
We are very pleased to be recruiting to the following vacancy across our Care Group:

Mental Health Directorate (Childrens Care Group) Lead Nurse

This is a senior clinical role within the new directorates. The Lead Nurse will professionally lead some senior leaders and provide clinical expertise within the directorate management team.It is expected that the successful candidate would have 1 day, or equivalent, per week to dedicate to this role.It is expected that this post would allow the successful candidate to develop leadership and management skills and prepare them for other senior professional leadership roles in future, or as a way to ensure that clinical practice is represented within the new DMT.The post holder will be a collaborative, visible, inclusive and compassionate Lead Nurse with values and behaviours that inspire understanding and trust, build inclusion and reduce inequalities.

Main duties of the job
If successful your appointment to the Lead role will be for a period of 12 months, for colleagues who currently work full time (37.5 hours per week) you will work 0.8 WTE in your substantive role and 0.2 WTE in the Lead role. For colleagues who work less than full time you have the option to work the 0.2 WTE as part of your current hours or alternatively you can increase your hours by 0.2 WTE, provided this does not exceed full time hours.

It is expected that as a minimum the successful candidate will, together with the other leads in the directorate:
  • Provide evidence based clinical advice to the directorate leadership team.
  • Provide advice on the recruitment and retention of professionals to the directorate, including supporting professional development.
  • Provide evidence-based advice on nursing research & innovation to the directorate.
  • Undertake specific service improvement projects within the directorate,

It is expected that the Lead Nurse will work with the Care Group Director of Nursing to develop a bespoke job plan for this part of their job. This will involve working on specific leadership projects within the directorate.

The Deputy Care Group Director will coordinate the DMT, which includes service managers, matrons, and the lead roles from each profession.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse - Current RGN RMN or RNLD Nursing
  • Evidence of relevant and transferable Post Registration Study
  • Experienced and credible practitioner in the field of Nursing
  • Post Registration Specialist Qualification or equivalent experience to Masters level

Desirable
  • Management Qualification or equivalent level of experience

Experience
Essential
  • Senior clinical nursing experience showing managerial or advanced practice skills in any transferable clinical setting.
  • Involvement in Change Management processes
  • Participated in audit/research, education programmes or teaching

Skills
Essential
  • Knowledge of Patient Safety, Patient Experience and Quality Improvement theory as it applies to operational services in the care group.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Track record of developing others, Individuals and Teams to meet high service standards of quality and safety
  • Able to self-start, lead and complete complex tasks
  • Demonstrable knowledge of risk management and risk registers
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable
  • Knowledge of policy drivers at national and local level as applicable to the care group
  • Well-developed self-awareness thorough 360 feedback or leadership development
