Description

Job Title: Occupational Therapist - Specialist Falls Service
A4C Band: 6
Hours of Work: Seven days a week, 8am to 8pm
Directorate: Doncaster Care Group - Home First Service
Location: Required to work at any location at any time throughout the duration of their contract within the RDaSH footprint, or set out under terms of their contract. Travel outside the RDaSH footprint may also be required. The base for this role at the time of advertising will be the Therapy Hub at Tickhill Road Hospital
Accountable to: The Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist

Main duties of the job
To provide comprehensive multi-factorial falls assessment, treatment and evidence based programme of rehabilitation to all clients who have fallen or who are worried about falling.

Triage referrals received from GPs, other health professionals and others, being aware of quality and appropriateness of referrals, and deal with these as necessary.

Independently manage a caseload without direct supervision and to be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of clinical risk.

Work within professional standards and clinical guidelines, promote best practice and to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner including assessing and treating own caseload of patients/clients and maintaining professional documentation.

Participate in pathway design and promotion of the service to encourage new sources and routes of referral to optimise the scope and impact of the service.

On occasions, assist the Occupational Therapists within other areas of the Home First service.

To work alongside the multi-disciplinary team within the Urgent Crisis Response Service.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council

Desirable
  • To have completed the L'APPLE course
  • Post graduate courses associated with falls in the older person
  • Management/Leadership qualification

Experience
Essential
  • Clinical experience including at least 18 months working within community settings.
  • Formal supervision of staff.

Knowledge
Essential
  • To have a full understanding of the current NHS issues and initiatives, professional standards, CPD, clinical governance.

Skills
Essential
  • To have an understanding of the Home First pathway.
  • Competent to complete moving and handling assessments, prescribe equipment and complete plans.
  • Ability to give and receive instructions to people with a variety of communication abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills and empathy.
  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills.

Desirable
  • Will have completed the L'APPLE course and have taken Occupational Therapy students.
  • To have a thorough knowledge of assistive equipment to prevent falls.
