Job summary
This is a fantastic career development opportunity for a Radiographer to join an innovative and friendly department. We strive for excellence in all aspects of patient care and promote and support health and wellbeing in all our staff.

The Radiotherapy Service in Truro is looking for Therapeutic Radiographers with a professional manner and high personal standards and drive. The department has a wide bore CT scanner with contrast and 4DCT, two beam matched Truebeam linear accelerators with cone beam CT, SGRT, 6DoF couches, 4D CBCT & electron facilities, and a Superficial Treatment Unit.

In addition to this, the service runs radiographer-led clinics involving prostate support, on-treatment review, late effects , and follow up clinics. We are looking for someone to work within the pre-treatment and treatment teams during this exciting time of continued service development across all areas.

This role has been approved for advertising; however, it is also being assessed as a suitable alternative employment opportunity. As a result, the vacancy may be withdrawn or there may be a delay before shortlisting can begin.

This role is open to all applicants. However, in line with Cornwall First recruitment principles, initial shortlisting will prioritise applicants from Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and the Integrated Care Board for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Main duties of the job
As part of the team, you will be responsible for the accurate delivery of radiotherapy and the management and supervision of patients through the review, pre-treatment and treatment processes.

Responsible for maintaining the highest professional standards in the care and treatment of patients undergoing radiotherapy in line with nationally and locally agreed standards.

Responsible for the accurate pre and post processing of treatments / checking and interpretation of treatment plans and prescriptions.

Responsible for calculation of v-sim treatments and checking correct data entry on the treatment computer.

Responsible for the safe use of highly complex and expensive equipment.

Responsible for ensuring that junior members of staff and students are trained appropriately and follow departmental procedures.

Applicants must have a high level of technical competence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and hardworking with a positive can-do attitude. The ability to remain calm under pressure and to integrate well with the existing teams are essential attributes of any applicants.

Hours of work may be flexible and will reflect the needs of the Service. Radiotherapy treatment is routinely delivered with shifts between 7.30am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, some shift working is required on service days until 8pm.

Qualifications
Essential
  • HCPC Registration
  • BSc in Radiotherapy or DCR(T)- Diploma of the College of Radiographers or eqivalent
  • IELTS Level 7 (for those applying internationally)

Desirable
  • Further education or short courses

Experience
Essential
  • Post diploma/graduate experience
  • Able to work on own initiative

Desirable
  • Experience of working on TrueBeam Linear Accelerators
  • High level of technical competence
  • Experience using SGRT
  • Worked in an NHS environment

Skills
Essential
  • Fully completed application form with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, listening, verbal and non-verbal.
  • Ability to teach, train and motivate others.
  • Awareness of IR(ME)R regulations
