Job summary
The Royal Cornwall Hospital is currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Radiographer to join our Interventional Radiology team.

The Diagnostic Imaging Department has recently achieved accreditation through the Quality Standards for Imaging (QSI) and has been inspected and rated by the Care Quality Commission as 'Outstanding', the highest possible rating.

The Clinical Imaging Service is county wide offering patient's high quality diagnostics in their local community hospital or specialist services at the Royal Cornwall, St Michaels and West Cornwall Hospitals.

Dependent on experience the successful candidate may initially start as a Band 5 Trainee IR Radiographer. We have an accelerated pathway for Band 5 to Band 6 progression. The successful candidate is given comprehensive training in IR alongside leadership skills.

There is 1 full time fixed term position available - 37.5 hours

Main duties of the job
  • To support the delivery of a wide range of diagnostic and interventionalprocedures carried out in the IR theatre suite, the Cardiac Catheter Labs and the gastrointestinal/general fluoroscopy suite
  • To work with the IR Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to ensure the efficient and cost effective delivery of the IR service.
  • To work as part of a team providing a 7 day and out of hours IR service including 'on-call'.
  • To act as shift co-ordinator in the absence of the IR Team Leader or Advance Practitioner, taking responsibility for the operation of the IR department, including prioritising the workload, managing workflow and staff resources to ensure the highest standards of patient care are achieved.
  • To make operational management decisions out of hours in the absence of the Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner in IR.
  • To work with the Team Leader and Advanced Practitioner Radiographers to continually improve the IR service.
  • Justify radiology referrals (within scope of practice) using referral criteria which falls within the Royal College of Radiologists Guidelines and Clinical Imaging protocols.
  • To comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation (IRR 17), Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) regulations (IR(ME)R 2017) and the Trust Radiation Safety Policy.
  • Liaise closely with Consultant Radiologists and colleagues within clinical multidisciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive optimum care

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • DCR(R) or BSc Hons (Radiography) in Diagnostic Imaging. Current state registration through HCPC.

Desirable
  • Post graduate qualification.

Practical/Intellectual Skills
Essential
  • Ability to work autonomously or part of a team
  • Portfolio evidence of CPD.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Basic IT skills necessary to use specialist imaging equipment.
  • To carry out audit and contribute to clinical governance
  • Ability and commitment to perform IV cannulation and administer drugs
  • Ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries

Desirable
  • Extensive clinical and technical knowledge in Trauma, acute and general Radiography including Interventional Radiology.
  • Experience in using PACS and RIS.

Experience
Essential
  • Good level of post graduate experience
  • Trauma, Acute and general experience
  • Portfolio evidence of relevant experience in Clinical Imaging
  • NHS Experience

Desirable
  • IR experience
  • Cannulation and administration of IV drugs
  • Experience of shift co-ordinator duties.
  • Experience in Interventional Radiology
  • Clinical experience in other imaging modalities
