Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Labour Ward Co-ordinator to join our existing team at North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple. As a Labour Ward Co-ordinator you will be responsible for the day to day co-ordination of the activity on the labour ward.

More detail about the role
We are looking for an experienced, compassionate and motivated midwife to join our team as a Labour Ward Coordinator. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, effective and compassionate delivery of care while supporting and inspiring the multidisciplinary team.

As Labour Ward Coordinator, you will:
  • Lead and manage the labour ward team, providing expert clinical midwifery leadership and support.
  • Coordinate the safe and effective flow of women through the maternity service, ensuring timely escalation of clinical concerns and operational pressures.
  • Set and monitor standards of clinical practice and team performance, fostering a high-performing, supportive and accountable working environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, personalised and compassionate care for women and their families.
  • Provide expert leadership and professional guidance to enhance midwifery practice and support clinical decision-making.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and respectful culture where civility, kindness and psychological safety are at the heart of everyday practice.
  • Encourage open communication, timely escalation and constructive challenge to ensure patient safety and continuous improvement.
  • Take a proactive role in the ongoing development and transformation of maternity services, supporting innovation, quality improvement and the professional development of colleagues.
