Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Enfield Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team to cover maternity leave. This post will support the delivery of high-quality neuropsychological assessment and intervention for stroke survivors in Enfield.

The postholder will support and enhance the professional neuropsychological input and psychologically informed care for patients referred to the Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team. This includes providing structured neuropsychological assessment and brief protocol-based interventions under the close supervision of qualified clinical psychologists/neuropsychologists.

You will be based at St Michaels Primary Care Centre in Enfield and seeing patients in their homes and/or clinic.

A car driver with own car for work purposes is required for this post.

Main duties of the job
Assessments and brief interventions for mood, adjustment, behavioural and cognitive functioning will be delivered independently but working according to a plan agreed with a qualified clinical psychologist/neuropsychologist. All clinical activity will be carried out under a matched care model, with responsibilities and level of autonomy clearly defined and regularly reviewed by the supervising psychologist. While assessments and interventions will be delivered independently, these will always follow a formulation and care plan agreed in supervision, and within the scope of competence for a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist.

The postholder will also be working closely in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to support psychological elements of patients' rehabilitation goals. The role will always adhere to Trust and team policies on clinical governance, safeguarding, and documentation.

The post-holder will be expected to produce high-quality documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with Trust policies and team processes in line with Trust standards.

Wider responsibilities include participation in clinically related administration, routine data collection and service evaluation, and support to audit, teaching and research projects. The postholder will also assist in the development of psychoeducational materials and contribute to local service improvement initiatives.

Whilst working autonomously within the stroke team, the postholder will also be joining an expanding and supportive neuropsychology team. Our ethos is for every member of the team to grow as a clinician and a leader, and to be enabled to maintain their wellbeing in work. Formal clinical supervision will be provided weekly by the Band 8a Clinical Psychologist/Neuropsychologist working within the same team in accordance with the British Psychological Societys (BPS) guidelines (2024), with additional supervision available as required. The postholder will also have access to protected CPD opportunities, including journal clubs, complex case discussions, and bi-annual Psychological Professionals (Adult Clinical Services) (PP (ACS)) events hosted by the Royal Free. A personalised learning and development plan will be agreed at the start of the role and reviewed regularly in supervision.

• Eligible for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society
• Undergraduate degree in Psychology

Desirable

• Neuropsychology component to degree, or subsequent qualifications
• Further postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, and/or research and design and analysis

Knowledge & Experience
Essential

• An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with stroke, neurological conditions, brain injury or other disabilities
• Experience of working with people with stroke, neurological conditions, brain injury, and/or other disabilities, in a paid or voluntary capacity
• Experience of research/audit/project work

Desirable

• An understanding of psychology applied to healthcare
• Experience of administering neuropsychological assessment (training will be provided where necessary)
• Experience of implementing psychological or psychologically informed interventions
• Experience working in a team with other health professionals e.g. Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech & Language Therapist
