Job summary
The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research. The Acute Oncology Service provides expert advice and management for patients who have been admitted to hospital as a consequence of their cancer or cancer treatment

Main duties of the job
  • Support the Macmillan Lead Acute Oncology Nurse to deliver and evaluate the service delivery model
  • Support team working and collaboration within the Acute Oncology team and the wider team across the Royal Free Group.
  • Provide visibility as Acute Oncology CNS support to Multidisciplinary teams across the North Middlesex Hospital.
  • Deliver an Acute Oncology service across the North Middlesex Hospital.
  • The CNS will have a key role within the MDT acting as a liaison between all members of the multi disciplinary team,

Education, professional qualifications, Experience, Skills, aptitudes, Personal qualities attributes
Essential
  • Registered Nurse
  • Undergraduate Degree Qualification
  • Further education and qualification in Cancer related subject. Preferably with SACT qualification
  • Mentorship/Education Qualification
  • Advanced Clinical assessment skills/Nurse prescribing
  • Substantial post registration experience working in Cancer/Oncology
  • Evidence of supporting and educating Junior members of the work force
  • Ability to administer SACT and provide advice and support to patients receiving SACT
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills and ability to positively influence colleagues
  • Be a positive role model with ability to demonstrate a credible and professional approach
  • Evidence of on going professional development
  • Ability to work under pressure, both alone and with the wider team.
  • Be Flexible and approachable
  • Ability to independently assess an unwell patient.
  • Expert knowledge and skills for the post and ability to share that knowledge using advanced communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritise and work to deadlines
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and ensure that patient needs are treated with the highest priority.

  • Advanced Clinical assessment skills/Nurse prescribing
  • Previous experience of research and audit of activity.
