Job SummaryThe post-holder will support the clinical leadership and management of the Orthoptic services and orthoptic staff across Edgware Community Hospital, Barnet Hospital & Chase Farm Hospital, as mutually agreed with the Head Orthoptist. As our department is an accredited clinical undergraduate orthoptic training centre, the post holder will also share Lead Clinical Tutor duties with other Lead Orthoptists across our department sites, to actively support the undergraduate placements.
Join Our Team. If you are looking to join a well supported, dynamic Orthoptic team on a part-time basis, this opportunity could be for you. We are seeking an experienced orthoptist to join our multidisciplinary team for a 12-month, fixed-term maternity cover post (15 hours per week).
Main Duties of the Job- Deliver expert clinical care through the advanced assessment diagnosis and management of complex orthoptic cases.
- Actively drive the development and leadership of specialised pathways within both paediatric and adult services.
- Collaborate with senior colleagues to lead and deliver high quality clinical education and training.
- Clinical Education: As an accredited undergraduate training centre, you will share lead clinical duties with other lead orthoptists to support and oversee undergraduate placements.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Possess a Degree or Diploma of Orthoptics
- HCPC registration
Desirable- BIOS Clinic Tutors Course/ equivalent
- Clinical Teaching qualification
- Management/ Leadership qualification
Skills and AptitudesEssential- To be able to show good working relationships at all levels and to work as part of a multidisciplinary team or independently.
- To be able to work under pressure in a busy environment, whilst maintaining high quality Orthoptic practise.
- The ability to handle difficult situations calmly and effectively to deal with patients, tactfully, efficiently and with empathy.
Work ExperienceEssential- Extensive experience in all aspects of clinical Orthoptics involving specialist services.
- Experience of teaching student Orthoptists, doctors, pre-registration optometrists, nurses.
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable- Demonstrate knowledge and clinical skills relevant to Orthoptics in extended roles.
- Have management/ leadership experience.
