Job summary
We have an opportunity for a motivated and experienced Physiotherapist to join our dynamic Therapy Team at Barnet Hospital - part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. This post is via the staff Bank and would involve working up to 37.5 hours per week.

The Therapy teams at Barnet Hospital provide an integrated therapy service in the following areas:

• Stroke
• Neurology
• Emergency Department and Admission Avoidance
• Acute Medicine
• Surgery (including Head & Neck surgery)
• Acute Respiratory Care (including Non-Invasive Ventilation) across the Enhanced Care Unit and ward
• Critical Care
• Acute cardiology
• Health Services for Elderly People (HSEP)
• Trauma & Orthopaedics

The successful applicant will be expected to manage their own clinical caseload and supervise other staff as appropriate, whilst being supported by highly skilled and experienced band 7 and 8 staff in the relevant specialty.

Main duties of the job

• This static Band 6 Physiotherapist will undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and work in accordance with the standards, policies, and procedures established within the inpatient clinical areas.
• To provide an advanced standard of therapy assessment and treatment of a specialist caseload within inpatient areas to patients, considering carers and families, without direct supervision. Access to advice and support from team leads is available when required. Clinical work is routinely evaluated.
• To work in a trans-disciplinary therapy team including other physiotherapists, occupational therapists, therapy support workers, dieticians and speech and language therapists.
• To work with patient's families or carers to provide an advanced level of support, education and expectation regarding the outcome of the hospital attendance.
• To supervise, teach and appraise Band 5 therapists and support workers.
• To participate in Continuing Professional Development, evidence - based audit and research projects that will enhance the service.

Job responsibilities
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• To be professional, legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care and support more junior staff to do likewise.
• To undertake comprehensive assessments of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations or multiple pathologies, using clinical reasoning skills and a variety of assessment techniques to provide an accurate analysis of their condition.
• To be able to analyse clinical and social information from a range of sources and integrate this into your assessment in order to identify goals, develop a treatment plan and deliver patient centred care.
• To deliver effective, evidence based therapy treatment that is modified to reflect the patients on-going needs.

CLINICAL/SERVICE DELIVERY

• To be responsible for own practice and accountable for all aspects of therapy treatment and care delivered to the patient.
• To be responsible for maintaining evidence based clinical practice both for self and band 5 physiotherapist /support worker members of the team under supervision.
• To be able to motivate and persuade patients with a range of conditions to work with treatment programmes and work towards treatment goals.
• To organise and lead family meetings and case conferences as required to facilitate realistic goal setting and appropriate discharge planning.

OPERATIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

• To ensure that appropriate risk assessment/management occurs within designated area, reporting back to senior.
• To work on any of the Trust sites as requested.
• To use information technology to communicate assessment and treatment results to relevant disciplines and produce letters and reports as necessary.

LEADERSHIP/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

• To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet service needs and patient priorities, readjusting plans as situations change/arise, on a day-to-day basis. To assist band 5 physiotherapists / support worker staff to do likewise.
• To be responsible in the day-to-day supervision and allocation of work to less experienced physiotherapists and support workers within the clinical team.
