Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen, for an emerging leader to fulfil the role of a Band 8a Lead Nurse for our Specialist Hip and Knee CNS Team. We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate nurse leader committed to the highest standards of care/patient experience, improvement and innovation. The CNS Lead along with their team work with the Joint Reconstruction Unit Consultants and Operational colleagues to provide specialist continuity of care for patients with hip and knee conditions requiring surgery.

This role will enable you to use your considerable leadership skills, clinical knowledge and, to take a leading role in supporting the CNS team to ensure they get the most out of their team's collective knowledge and skills.

The CNS Lead will direct, promote and develop the specialist hip and knee team and be able to demonstrate a commitment to the Trust's ethos by maintaining professional standards of care within the RNOH orthopaedic community. Candidates will have at least two years' experience as a Band 7 within this speciality or similar role.

Main duties of the job

• To lead and develop the specialist hip and knee team to provide a modern and efficient Service.
• The advanced assessment of hip and knee patients who may have complex and/or chronic presentations to determine further management and investigations as indicated and to maintain accurate records.
• To work at an advanced practitioner level in planning, developing and evaluating the specialist hip and knee service and ensuring the application of Evidence-based Practice.
• To use advanced skills, extending the usual scope of professional practice, to assess and formulate individual patient management plans in collaboration with the JRU Consultants and/or other MDT members.
• To have a key role in the AP Service and wider JRU team in leading, enabling and facilitating change within the departments.
• To undertake independent research/audit studies and assist with research studies and clinical trials with the JRU surgeons as appropriate.
• To improve patient satisfaction with their experience at the RNOH.
• To provide specialist advice, teaching and instruction to arthroplasty patients, relatives, carers and other professionals involved with the JRU and devise training packages for the team, using national and transferable work-based assessment tools.
• To support Trust initiatives to reduce joint replacement patients' length of stay whilst maintaining a high-quality service.
