Job summary
Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is the largest specialist orthopaedic Trust in the UK with a world renowned reputation.

We are looking for a flexible and enthusiastic HCPC registered radiographer with good general X-ray experience and experience or ambition to work in cross sectional imaging.

The successful candidate will rotate between the x-ray and scanning departments at the RNOH. CT or MRI experience is desirable but not essential and training will be given where necessary.

It is an exciting time to join the RNOH imaging team. We have opened an additional unit to the x-ray department that houses a DEXA scanner, EOS and a high rise PED CT unit. We have just installed a new 3T MRI scanner.

Main duties of the job
To provide high quality imaging for a wide range of patient groups including paediatrics, oncology and orthopaedic. Responsible, together with the rest of the imaging team, to provide an effective and efficient imaging service whilst adhering to departmental protocols and ensuring optimum patient care. This role requires you to work across all imaging departments within the Trust including general x-ray, cross-sectional imaging and theatres.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be flexible as the departments operate long days across the week. There is also a requirement to participate in on call duties.

Working closely with colleagues you will manage the day to day running of the area you are working in and liaise with other teams and staff members to ensure the effective use of the imaging service.

You will work according to Trust and departmental level protocols and ensure you comply with IRMER and IRR17 regulations at all times, ensuring all patient radiation doses are as low as reasonably practicable and that every exposure is justified.

You will ensure the safety of all patients and staff who enter the radiation controlled areas and MRI environment.

You will be expected to keep accurate patient records and manage patient images on PACS

Qualifications
Essential
  • BSc or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD

Desirable
  • Post graduate qualification relevant to imaging
  • IV cannulation

Experience
Essential
  • Good experience in general x-ray
  • Experience of working out of hours
  • Experience of managing own workload

Desirable
  • Experience in CT or MRI
  • Experience in nuclear medicine
  • Experience in orthopaedic imaging procedures

Skills
Essential
  • Good communication skills
  • Good IT skills and evidence of working with PACS and CRIS systems
  • Good organisational skills, able to problem solve and prioritise workload
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable
  • Evidence of audit and service improvement
  • Involvement in research projects

Knowledge
Essential
  • Working knowledge of IRMER and IRR
  • Knowledge of a wide range of x-ray techniques
  • Awareness of clinical governance requirements relevant to role

Desirable
  • Awareness of Trust values
