Job summary
The Alan Bray Unit is a combined Intensive care unit/ high dependency unit, which cares for a wide range of critically ill adults and children with musculo-skeletal conditions.

We are looking for adult and paediatric Band 6 nurses to join our well established team.

The unit offers good educational and professional development pathways and is innovative and forward thinking in developments within critical care.

You will be expected to make an active contribution to the unit's development as we enter an exciting period of expansion

You will be expected to work long days, nights and weekends

Main duties of the job
Applicants need to have at least significant experience in Critical Care, a mentorship Course, and an ITU course. Dual trained Paediatric and adult trained nurses desirable.

The main responsibilities:
  • Delivering high quality intensive care to patients and their families.
  • Coordinating the unit in the absence of the ward manager.
  • Facilitation of pre and post registration students.
  • Education and support of junior staff members.
  • Assisting junior staff in making personal developmental plans.

Qualifications
Essential
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Updated mandatory training
  • Mentorship course
  • Post registration Critical care course
  • Relevant degree or equivalent

Desirable
  • Management qualification ALS, EPLS

Experience
Essential
  • Significant critical care experience at band 5 level
  • Experience of HDU/ITU patient care
  • Working within the MDT
  • Mentoring students/junior members of staff

Desirable
  • Audit and research knowledge
  • Leadership training
  • Change management experience

  • Competent in basic life support
  • Confident in teaching
  • Mentorship and preceptorship skills and experience
  • Able to supervise, train and teach staff and students
  • Able to prioritise workload (self and others) and meet deadlines
  • Able to manage difficult situations effectively
  • Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Able to maintain clear and legible documentation
  • Able to organise and co-ordinate services during the absence of more senior staff
  • Sound clinical skills

  • Advanced knowledge of the care of critically ill patients
