Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to work as a Medical Physics Expert in our Imaging Physics team.

You'll be joining a team which provides a range of high quality medical physics services to the Trust and external organisations. The team are an integral part of the Imaging Physics Group, which also includes Clinical Measurement Services. In this role you will also work closely with Salisbury Foundation Trust.

The Imaging Physics Group is a friendly team of clinical scientists, clinical technologists, and administrators. It includes and is highly committed to supporting both scientist and technologist trainees via the NHS STP scheme and a level 6 technologist apprenticeship program. The vital importance of research, development and innovation is recognised and there is active involvement in clinical trials and various research projects both internally and with external partners.

This is an exciting time to join the department with expanding services and having moved into the purpose-built Dyson Cancer Centre. There are also lots of opportunities for development including management, teaching and research.

Main duties of the job
As a Medical Physics Expert for Diagnostic Radiology you will work with Clinical Consultants, Medical Physicists, Radiographers and Nuclear Medicine Technologists.

You will provide scientific supervision and management to other scientists and apprentices in the RUH Imaging Physics Group and at Salisbury Foundation Trust.

The role requires detailed scientific knowledge and technical expertise in radiation physics and dosimetry and its application to healthcare, and you will provide advice to ensure the safety of staff, patients and visitors.

You will also be responsible for developing and delivering appropriate training in radiation safety for Trust staff in line with Trust policy and legislation.

This role will require regular work at both Salisbury District Hospital and The Royal United Hospitals Bath.

Qualifications and experience
Essential
  • Good honours degree in Physics
  • Relevant MSc or higher degree
  • On RPA2000 List of Medical Physics Expert Certificate holders
  • HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics)

Desirable
  • Certification as Radiation Protection Adviser

Knowledge and Experience
Essential
  • Experience of working in diagnostic radiology physics
  • Experience of successfully managing and motivating staff

Desirable
  • Experience of developing and delivering training to other staff
  • Experience of working in Nuclear Medicine
