Do you enjoy helping colleagues and students develop their clinical knowledge and skills? We are seeking experienced Paramedics to join the Scottish Ambulance Service Education and Professional Development Department (EPDD) as Clinical Training Officers.
These posts will strengthen clinical education delivery at our West and East Clinical Education Centres in Ayr and Edinburgh. You will support Ambulance Care Assistant, Technician and Newly Qualified Paramedic programmes, alongside Learning in Practice, clinical skills, simulation and assessment. You will also help staff returning to work or requiring individual development support. For the permanent posts, there will be a requirement to undertake development as an Emergency Driving Instructor.
You will join an established national education team and work with colleagues to prepare and deliver learning, assess competence, provide feedback and support learners. We are looking for people who can manage competing priorities, work with an appropriate level of autonomy and contribute to a busy team. Travel to other delivery sites may be required, with occasional overnight stays.
You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Paramedic and hold at least an ordinary degree, or already be enrolled on a degree programme nearing completion. You must also hold the Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (CERAD), or Institute of Health and Care Development (IHCD) equivalent.
You should be able to demonstrate current clinical competence and experience of mentoring, delivering education or supporting learners at Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework levels 6 and 7, particularly in the clinical environment.
A Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, a practice education qualification or equivalent, and an appropriate teaching qualification such as the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or a postgraduate certificate in education are desirable. Where these are not already held, you must be willing to undertake the development required for the role if required. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain their Paramedic registration and clinical competence, including appropriate clinical practice.
The posts offer the opportunity to develop as a clinical educator, work with experienced colleagues and contribute to the education that supports patient care across Scotland.
