Join the Research Delivery Team at Sheffield Children's, where you will help support a variety of research studies and trials, mostly within the Emergency Department but also across the Trust.

As clinical trials grow in complexity and more specialties become research-active, this is a chance to collaborate with teams both within and outside the Trust, providing children and young people with opportunities to participate in exciting clinical research.

You will manage patient care pathways, recruiting and educating and monitoring research participants, and accurate data collection.

Current NMC registration is essential for this role. Given the portfolio of research the role will be delivering, Emergency Department experience is highly desirable.

Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Clinical Research Facility Manager, your responsibilities will include:

• Coordinate and run paediatric clinical trials and studies ensuring compliance with research protocols and regulations.
• Maintain accurate study documentation and site files.
• Contribute to recruitment, consent procedures and information giving for participants.
• Collaborate with research teams to ensure smooth trial execution.
• Plan and deliver patient care, prioritising individual needs.
• Advocate for participants throughout the research process.
• Help develop junior colleagues and train the wider ED team in the studies currently being offered in the department

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Degree or Diploma Level Education as Registered Nurse, Midwife, AHP or Graduate with degree in subject relevant to clinical research and research experience
• Have training in or be willing to undertake training in Good Clinical Practice and other relevant courses as required for the conduct of research in the NHS
• Good understanding and awareness of the National Institute of Health Research and how research in the UK is supported

Desirable

• Teaching, Mentoring and Assessors qualification
• Higher level of qualification (MSc / PhD) in a relevant clinical / scientific discipline

Experience
Essential

• Significant work experience (or post registration experience where applicable)
• Recent experience working with patients/children and planning and delivering their care
• Significant knowledge of / experience of delivering clinical research studies in the clinical setting and / or considerable exposure to research conducted in the NHS (on wards / theatres / outpatients etc)
• Experience of liaising with and maintaining good working relationships with other health professionals across all clinical disciplines at all levels

Desirable

• Experience of co-ordinating and delivering multi-centred clinical studies and complex interventional trials
• Experience of preparing clinical research projects for monitoring / audit / regulatory inspection
• Clinical skills: experience of venepuncture and cannulation, ECG, lung function tests, intravenous drug administration, sample handling and processing
• ED experience

Knowledge and Skills
Essential

• Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
• Good decision making skills
• Able to produce clear written & verbal reports, instructions & advice
• Knowledge of EU Directive for Clinical Trials; Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice
• Ability to follow complex protocols and Standard Operating Procedures
• Knowledge of pharmacovigillance and safety reporting

Desirable

• Qualified and able to give intravenous injections and draw blood from lines
• Experience of delivering training on clinical skills / clinical research to a range of healthcare professionals

• Able to deal calmly and confidently with enquiries from all professional groups and patients / carers
• Demonstrate effective communication skills appropriate to families and age/development of child
• Willingness to work flexibly in terms of hours and duties as a member of a team (willingness to work some evenings and weekends if this is required on a clinical trial)
• Willingness to travel in UK & abroad for investigator meetings
• Ability to respect cultural, social and religious diversity
