Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Accredited Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding Department. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a service that plays a critical role in supporting patient care, clinical governance, service planning, performance monitoring, and the financial sustainability of the Trust.

The accuracy of clinical coding activity is vitally important to the Trust, not only to secure the correct levels of income but also to inform decision-making regarding the future development of clinical services. Clinical coding data is widely used across the NHS, Government, and external organisations to produce national statistics, monitor clinical outcomes, support research, and measure key quality indicators.

As an Accredited Clinical Coder, you will provide a high-quality, efficient coding service, ensuring the accurate and timely translation of complex medical terminology into nationally recognised classification codes.

Qualifications
Essential

• Qualified to Degree level (or significant proven clinical coding qualification).
• Accredited clinical coding qualification.

Desirable

• ECDL.
• AMSPAR.
• Medical terminology qualification.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential

• Attendance at refresher and specialty workshops.
• Ability to code a minimum of 6 specialty areas.
• Deliver training to a variety of audiences, including clinical coding and medical staff.
• Ability to support trainee clinical-coding staff.
• Extensive experience of PAS/hospital systems.
• National clinical coding standards and practices.
• National & local performance/quality standards.
• Anatomy and physiology.
• ICD10, OPCS4 and HRG4.
• Information Governance Toolkit standards.

Desirable

• Previous supervisory experience.
• PAS experience.

Skills
Essential

• Excellent presentation skills.
• Ability to communicate at all levels.
• Report writing skills.
• Excellent IT skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
