You will lead the delivery of integrated, evidence-informed services, focusing on prevention, promotion, and early intervention. Working primarily within schools, but also within family homes, children's centres, health clinics, and other community settings, you will use advanced assessment skills to work closely with children, young people, and their families. Your work will aim to improve long-term health outcomes and provide appropriate support where needed.
The role is central to Sirona's Public Health Nursing Service vision, engaging with transformation programmes and building strong partnerships with families, schools, and other professionals to deliver the Healthy Child Programme (2023).

Main duties of the jobCommunity Public Health School Nurses will support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme in Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire, ensuring equitable access for children, young people and families to information and support in their own community that includes schools. You will also be expected to:
- Work collaboratively with other agencies, for example schools, to promote health and wellbeing and improve early identification of need and risks to child outcomes which includes the running of school-based drop-in clinics.
- Deliver agreed 'Support Packages' to children, young people, and families, which are short term, time limited evidence-based interventions while demonstrating an understanding of the importance for the child of ending a specified intervention.
- Plan, facilitate and evaluate specific public health interventions such as road shows with support from line manager and SCPHN School Nurses.
- Actively participate in supporting students of all levels through the provision of placement support, supervision, assessment, and development opportunities.

This role requires the post holder to be mobile, visiting several locations across a wide geographical area so the post holder must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to an appropriate means of transport to undertake the job effectively. There is an expectation you will travel across the locality daily as well as within the geographical areas of BNSSG.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Bsc (Hons) Degree in nursing or midwifery, or equivalent with relevant experience.
- Current NMC Registration or be awaiting registration confirmation following successful completion of the required nursing course. Registered Nurse (Adult, Children's, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health) and or Registered Midwife
Desirable- Evidence of successful study at post graduate level
ExperienceEssential- Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development and reflective practice
- Demonstrate an understanding of evidence-based practice in all areas of practice.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the theory underpinning public health nursing including the impact of wider determinants of health and adverse childhood experiences on children and young people's short- and long-term outcomes.
- Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills in a range of situations.
- Demonstrate an ability to remain focussed on the child and child outcomes when working in partnership with families.
- Evidence an ability to work flexibly and to be adaptable, according to service and service user needs
- Demonstrate a willingness to undertake further training e.g. in group facilitation skills, leading a multi-agency meeting, physical and emotional child development and the use of tools to support the service provided
- Demonstrate an ability to work independently but also to be able to function effectively within a team.
- Computer literate with the ability to use computerised patient information systems for updating records and managing caseload.
Desirable- Demonstrate experience of group facilitation with either young people, parents, students or colleagues.
