Job summaryWe are looking for a GPwER who holds a Diploma in dermatology or equivalent who will see general dermatology patients directly referred by primary care, undertake appropriate investigations, diagnose their conditions, and formulate treatment plans. Occasionally there will be a requirement to assist with the triage of more complex referrals.
This role is for 1PA (3.5hrs) per week.The service provides specialist patient centred assessment and management of skin conditions that have not responded to standard GP treatment and require specialist advice. referrals are accepted from GP practices within the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB.
We have a single point of access for all of our referrals and work out of our administration hub: William Budd Health Centre. Our clinics operate from a variety of locations across the Bristol, North somerset and South Gloucestershire area.
The team consists of an Advanced Practitioner, Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialists and Registered Nurse Associate, Administration Support and GPs with Extended Roles. The team works alongside a wider skin integrity service team within Sirona care & health with the aim of providing integrated skin services across the specialities of wound care, lymphoedema and dermatology.
Main duties of the job- Assess general dermatological patients referred into the service, undertake appropriate investigations, diagnose their conditions and recommend treatments.
- When appropriate refer the patient back to their GP with advice for on-going management.
- When appropriate refer the patient for consultant dermatologist opinion, plastic surgeon or dermatology specialist nurse.
- Work in conjunction with and support the dermatology nurse specialist through joint review of patients and provide advice on dermatological cases.
- Undertake diagnostic biopsies, curettage and cautery procedures.
- Work in conjunction with and support the dermatology nurse specialists through joint review of patients
- The successful candidate will have nursing support during their clinics

- Full GMC registration with license to practice
- Inclusion on a GP performers list
- MRCGP and Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General practice or equivalent
- Diploma in Dermatology or equivalent postgraduate dermatology qualification
- Evidence of continued professional development and annual appraisal/revalidation
Desirable- BAD- accredited GPwER in Dermatology, or working towards accreditation
ExperienceEssential- Sufficient knowledge and skill in diagnosis to ensure safe and effective practice of dermatology
- Competence in establishing a differential diagnosis by the appropriate use of history, clinical examination and investigations
- An ability to carry out minor practical procedures
- Knowledge and application of the NICE guidelines (IOG), for the management of skin cancers
- Understanding and experience of audit and evaluation
- Effective communication skills during interaction with patients and colleagues, including the ability to explore peoples understanding, reactions and opinions
