Job summary
Are you an experienced Sonographer looking for an opportunity to work within a supportive, forward-thinking ultrasound team? We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practitioner Sonographer to join our Diagnostic Imaging Department at Yeovil Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-quality, patient-centred ultrasound service, delivering a broad range of diagnostic examinations while working alongside multidisciplinary teams across Somerset.

As an Advanced Practitioner Sonographer, you will undertake and independently report on a wide variety of ultrasound examinations, providing expert diagnostic information that directly influences patient care and clinical decision-making. You will work closely with radiologists, consultants, obstetricians, midwives, GPs and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

The role is primarily based within the Ultrasound Department at Yeovil Hospital, with regular sessions delivered across peripheral hospitals and community clinic locations.

Main duties of the job

• Independently perform and report a wide range of ultrasound examinations.
• Undertake obstetric, gynaecological and general medical ultrasound scanning.
• Contribute to fetal anomaly screening services.
• Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients with empathy and professionalism.
• Provide specialist advice to clinicians regarding imaging findings and appropriate investigations.
• Support the day-to-day running of the ultrasound service.
• Participate in teaching, mentoring and supervision of students and colleagues.
• Support service improvement, audit activities and departmental development.
• Participate in weekend and Bank Holiday ultrasound services as required.

Qualifications
Essential

• Post Grad Certificate or Diploma in medical ultrasound
• Under graduate degree in Radiography, Nursing or Midwifery
• CASE accredited qualification in Obstetric ultrasound
• CASE accredited qualification in General Medical ultrasound
• HCPC or NMC registration

Experience
Essential

• Evidence of supervisory and mentoring skills
• NHS experience
• Previous foetal anomaly, hips and abdominal scanning.
• Nuchal scanning
• Doppler experience and testicular scanning
• Post qualification experience

Desirable

• Current developments in the NHS and their likely impact on imaging provision
