Job summaryThe Award Winning PICuP Clinic are recruiting a specialist clinical psychologist who is able to provide a highly specialist psychology service, including cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp) and trauma focussed CBT (TF-CBT) and/or EMDR, to outpatients with ongoing distressing symptoms of psychosis, bipolar disorder and/or secondary emotional difficulties and trauma, involving specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes. The suitable candidate will be able to provide specialist training in an area of expertise related to psychological interventions in psychosis and related emotional problems to colleagues in South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM), other NHS trusts and universities, nationally and internationally. The will be able to provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, in CBT, EMDR and/or FI for psychosis andspecialist supervision and training to mental health professionals through close links with the Psychology Department at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course, and Post-Graduate Diploma and Certificate in CBT for psychosis courses nationally.

Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesKR 1: Clinical and client careTo provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions to clients with psychosis, bipolar disorder and complex PTSD, and their families.
To select and deliver evidence-based specialist psychological treatments, monitoring outcome and modifying and adapting interventions as needed. Specifically, to deliver NICE recommended CBT and FI for psychosis and/or bipolar disorder, lasting at least 16 sessions. This will include TF-CBT and EMDR if trained.
To provide culturally appropriate psychological interventions to carers or families of referred clients, including individual carer interventions.
To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex information to service users, families, primary and secondary care professionals and third sector workers, taking account of sensory and cultural barriers to communication.
To provide psychological support to clients and carers who are emotionally distressed, either due to the serious consequences of their illness or due to other traumatic events in their lives.
To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans.
KR 2: Contributing to team or service clinical functioningTo contribute to the effective working of service.
To provide expertise in psychosis, bipolar disorder, trauma/cPTSD, and working with carers, which will contribute to the service provided by the PICuP clinic.
To contribute to the development of the knowledge and skills base within PICuP by maintaining an active awareness of current developments in psychosis, bipolar disorder, trauma/cPTSD, and carers interventions by implementing knowledge gained in practice.
To lead and continually develop PICuPs Family and Friends Service.
To contribute to the services delivery of accessible and acceptable services to diverse local communities.
To be proactive in challenging discrimination and support the development of culturally competent services.
To advise other members of the service on the specialist psychological care of clients and carers.
To liaise closely with referrers, GPs and other professionals concerned with clients in order to develop and review care plans.
To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
KR 3: Policy and service developmentTo implement policies and procedures in own area of work, and to propose improvements or beneficial changes.
To contribute to service development through undertaking and participating in appropriate projects.
To contribute to the consultation and engagement of service users in planning and delivering services which meet the needs of local communities.
To participate in clinical governance initiatives as agreed by the Directorate Clinical Governance Committee and team.
KR 4: Care or management of resourcesTo take care of, and use carefully, the Trusts equipment and physical resources.
To ensure that the post-holder has sufficient resources by estimating future needs and requesting or ordering supplies as needed.
KR 5: Management and supervisionTo be responsible for the allocation of work, clinical supervision, and management of more junior psychologists, clinical psychology trainees, psychology assistants, support workers and volunteers, and other multi-disciplinary staff attached to the clinic, as required.
To contribute to the appraisal of more junior colleagues, as appropriate.
To contribute to the recruitment of more junior psychologists, as appropriate.
To provide clinical supervision for psychological work undertaken as part of the Family and Friends Service by honorary assistant psychologists, assistant psychologists, and trainee clinical psychologists as appropriate.
To provide specialist supervision to mental health professionals through close links with universities and Post-Graduate Diploma and Certificate in CBT for psychosis courses.
KR 6: Teaching and TrainingTo provide specialist training in psychological approaches to care to other professions as appropriate.

To receive specialist clinical supervision by attending fortnightly CBTp supervision groups, and additional individual supervision if required.
To audio-record therapy sessions, with clients consent, for the purposes of rating therapy adherence and competence.
To ensure own Continuing Professional Development in line with BPS and Trust Personal Development Plan requirements and the HCPC Standards for Continuing Professional Development.
To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current developments in professional and clinical practice and of relevant legislation and policies.
To comply with the HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and Standards of Proficiency, and ensure professional development in line with these.
To adhere to the BPSs Professional Practice Guidelines and Trust policies and procedures.

KR10: GeneralTo travel to and deliver therapy in community settings, homes, and GP surgeries as appropriate and across the Trust, and to travel to other meetings when required.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Doctorate level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology or equivalent
- Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
- BABCP accredited
Desirable- Additional training and experience in cognitive behaviour therapy for psychosis (CBTp) either through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma
- Attended training in EMDR
- Completed training course in clinical supervision
ExperienceEssential- At least one year experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with severe mental illness in adult mental health and particularly with clients with psychosis and bipolar disorder
- Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and/or lived experience
- Experience of supervising assistant and trainee psychologists having completed the relevant training
Desirable- Experience of being a therapist in a randomised controlled trial (RCT) of CBT/FI for psychosis and/or having completed a post-qualification Postgraduate Diploma in CBT for psychosis/Severe Mental Illness
- Specialist interest and experience in a 'niche' area related to psychosis, in terms of therapy and training provision (for example trauma)
- Experience of carrying out post-doctoral research, audit or service evaluation projects
