Job summary
We are pleased to be recruiting to a 7 Psychodynamic Psychotherapist post (0.6 wte) to join the psychodynamic modality of our multi-modality therapy team in secondary care. The post holder will be clinician practicing individual psychodynamic psychotherapy with adults with moderate-severe mood, anxiety and personality disorders. The post holder will ideally have experience of NHS secondary care adult mental health work.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will hold a caseload of psychodynamic psychotherapy cases, delivering assessment and individual psychodynamic psychotherapy. The post holder will work as part of the therapies team as well as providing link in work to an identified Neighbourhood multi-disciplinary team providing consultation to other professionals in their work.

About us
The successful applicant will work alongside other Psychodynamic psychotherapists delivering assessment and therapy. They will also work alongside psychotherapists offering Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Clinical/Counselling Psychologists offering CBT, tf-CBT, Schema informed therapy and EMDR, as part of this well-established multi-modality team. The post holder may supervise psychodynamic honoraries. The team is based in central Croydon (Jeanette Wallace House) and face-to-face sessions are provided at this base and at other Croydon sites. Wednesdays are an essential team day.

Job responsibilities
To provide specialist psychological interventions, specifically individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy to adults in secondary care with moderate to severe mood, anxiety and personality disorders including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.

• To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
• To provide clinical psychodynamic supervision and consultation as appropriate.
• To promote service evaluation, audit and research.
• To work as an autonomous professional within registration body guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor
• To be active in the provision of staff support within their area, including but not limited to Critical Incident Staff Support and Reflect-Support-Resolve. To participate, as a recipient, in staff support work when appropriate.

Experience
Essential

• Experience of receiving clinical supervision across a range of client needs.
• Experience of assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature, specifically individual psychodynamic psychotherapy with adults presenting with moderate to severe mood, anxiety and personality disorder presentations.
• Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience.
• Significant post-qualification/graduation experience including experience of individual and group therapy with people with complex mental health needs.
• Experience of working with adults presenting with moderate to severe mood, anxiety and personality disorder presentations.

Desirable

• A personal therapy experience of sufficient intensity, depth and duration to be able to work psychotherapeutically with complex secondary care level cases.

• To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information.
• To plan and schedule assessment and interventions for individual clients and groups and carers (and for meetings such as CPA and case reviews where appropriate).

Qualifications
Essential

• To have undertaken a recognised qualification in one of the core mental health professions, e.g. psychiatric nursing, clinical psychology, medicine, social work and occupational therapy OR to have equivalent relevant experience and demonstrable competence to work in the mental health field in the NHS. Entry-level qualification in applied psychological therapy/mental health/social welfare profession or equivalent and demonstrable practice in this field (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level/supervised practice/additional training) that has been accepted for the purposes of professional registration. Additional training beyond entry level qualification in a specialised area of psychodynamic psychotherapy practice such as a further training working with Personality Disorder and Complex Trauma through formal post-qualification training or a combination of specialist short courses and/or evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to Postgraduate Diploma or higher.
