We are recruiting a band 7 Specialist Occupational Therapist on a fixed term basis to join the Urgent Community Response Therapy team within South Tees and help support some of the initiatives being implemented in the community.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust Community Collaborative are working hard to improve the offer of community services ensuring that the local population across Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland receive support in their own homes. As a result there has been changes to service provision recently meaning that services can be delivered by the right member of staff in the right place at the right time.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the country, close to the North Yorkshire Moors and within easy reach of Newcastle and Leeds. It comprises two acute hospitals, James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital Northallerton and a number of community hospitals and community services. Therapy services at South Tees NHS trust are also part of the wider Integrated Therapy service in Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland.

Main duties of the job
The post holder, working alongside other Specialist Therapists will have shared responsibility for leadership and clinical practice within the Urgent Community Response / Hospital at Home and Home First Service by means of an innovative and collaborative approach to work related issues.

They will act as a clinical expert utilising well-grounded academic skills to lead in the area, demonstrating advanced specialist skills and knowledge, whilst assuming professional responsibility and accountability in the assessment and treatment of patients within within the their own homes.

They will work flexibly across 7 days a week, and will adapt to the changing needs of the service.

Successful candidate must have access to a vehicle for work purposes to meet the requirements of the role.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential

• To hold a Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy.
• Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by post graduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses plus further specialist training to master's (level 7) equivalent level.
• Current HCPC registration
• Educated to master level (Level 7) or willing to work towards.

Desirable

• Additional Specialist Training
• Evidence of Service improvement.
• To have completed the advanced physical assessment and disease management skills course (Level 7)
• Clinical educators training.

Knowledge & Skills
Essential

• Good listening and communication skills, communicating complex, sensitive, contentious information to patients, carers and colleagues.
• Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills in complex situations.
• Able to travel independently in relation to this post throughout the localities
• Teaching skills including presentations and training for other staff.
• Previous student supervision experience.
• Good organisational skills.
• Good time management skills.

Experience

• Significant post graduate experience
• Significant experience in the speciality.
• High level, specialised knowledge gained through formal courses and Continuing Professional Development.
• Information technology literate with the ability to use analysis packages.

• Experience of audit, service improvement and evaluation of changes made.
• Actively engaged within the profession and the specialist section of the College of Occupational Therapists / Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and other relevant groups or networks within clinical speciality
