We are seeking an enthusiastic colleague to join our busy plastic surgery and hand surgery team based at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. Our department delivers a broad and general range of services including: adult and paediatric elective and emergency hand surgery, peripheral nerve injury surgery, breast reconstruction, head and neck surgery, major lower limb trauma, skin cancer, vascular malformations (national referral base), hypospadias, burns, pressure sore and pelvic defect reconstruction, diabetic foot care, spinal cord injuries wound and upper limb care, chest wall reconstruction, and electrochemotherapy. There are existing research links with the regional universities, and a collaborative regional research network. There is a new Academic Surgical Unit being developed across multiple specialties with the support of the Royal College of Surgeons and the University of York.

Main duties of the job

• To maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
• Undertake any responsibility which relates to elective plastic and reconstructive surgery.
• Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences inc. sickness
• Active involvement in audit
• Continuing professional development (CPD)
• Any other duties which may be required

Job Plan:

The job plan will mainly cover general plastics skin clinics and lists. This post is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in lesional work.

About us
South Tees Hospitals is one of the largest Foundation Trusts in England and also includes the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. Job responsibilities
This post is advertised on a whole time basis, although any candidate who is unable to work full time will be eligible to apply and, if appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed in consultation with the clinical director to support less than full time working.

Person Specification
Clinical experience and effectiveness
Essential

• Depth and breadth of experience to participate in the care of both elective and emergency hand and plastic surgery patients at registrar level
• Evidence of clinical audit.

Desirable

• Evidence of research or publications within plastic surgery

Qualifications & Training
Essential

• Full registration with GMC and MRCS or appropriate specialist qualification

Skills, Knowledge and Aptitude

• Ability to organise and prioritise on-call demands
• Evidence of teaching and training skills for resident doctors and colleagues

Personal Skills

• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GP's, nurses and other agencies
• Enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure
