Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Link Psychologist to work on the Forensic Learning Disability and Autism (LD-A) Ward which provides specialist care and treatment to people who have intellectual impairment, some of whom also have an autism diagnosis. All service-users have additional mental health needs, challenging/offending behaviour, personality disorder and/or a history of problematic substance misuse.

We are welcoming applications from clinical, forensic or counselling psychologists who have HCPC registration to join the MDT, comprising psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, social work and speech and language therapy to deliver the highest quality care and support to the service-users on the ward, their friends and family and professional network. Previous experience of working with people with intellectual impairments with or without autism is essential. Experience working in forensic settings would be highly desirable as would experience in neuropsychological assessment.

This post is open to those applying at a band 7, 8a or 8b level, depending upon qualifications and experience. For those applying at a lower banding level, there will be a structured training schedule to enable you to gradually increase your roles and responsibilities, according to the job description below. The hours of work available will be adjusted depending upon the banding, up to a maximum of 32 hours. It is a fixed term post for 12 months covering maternity leave.

Main duties of the job
As the link psychologist for the Learning Disability and Autism (LD-A) ward, you will coordinate all psychological and psychotherapeutic input to service users on the ward. All service-users will have a learning disability, with or without autism, in addition to offending or otherwise challenging behaviour, mental health problems and often personality disorder and substance-use problems.

The link psychologist is responsible for determining but not providing all the psychological and psychotherapeutic input to service-users. You will work alongside an arts psychotherapist, positive behaviour support (PBS) practitioner and assistant psychologist, dedicated to the ward and assessments and treatments will also be shared amongst the Forensic Psychology and Psychotherapies (P&P) department. You will oversee the comprehensive assessment of service-users' needs.

The LD-A ward will work systemically to ensure that all parties involved in service-users' care are involved, whether that be friends and family members, community teams and/or other agencies. Previous experience of working systemically with friends and family and working with multiple agencies is therefore essential. Where appropriate, the SWLSTG Forensic Service is keen to involve service-users and their family and friends in the development of materials and the delivery of interventions and therefore experience of coproduction and a focus on empowerment is also an advantage.
