Job summaryWe are looking to recruit an experienced band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist, to work as a member of our established Adolescent Outreach Team. The team are really fortunate that we have an experienced full multi disciplinary representation, and high levels of retention of staff. The MDT are skilled and highly committed to supporting the wider network, parents and carers to support young people to remain at home, and if required to come to hospital facilitate a safe discharge and reduce length of stay.
The post-holder will work within AOT as a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist providing Care Coordination, Assessment, Intervention, and treatment of an agreed caseload of AOT clients, and offer consultation, and specialist supervisions to other Occupational Therapists in the service line, the network and referrers, and will have a primary practitioner role servicing the Occupational Therapy function in AOT.
The post-holder must be committed to effective team working and to the coherent delivery of the care this will include individual, family, group work and telephone support.
The team are always looking to develop the service to meet the needs of the young people and their parents/carers, this role would be at the forefront of this.
The team has strong working relationships with our local inpatient service (Aquarius), SLP inpatient units (TE2 and BAU), Tier 3 community CAMHS, CAMHS Emergency Care Team (CECS), CAMHS Crisis Line and CAMHS Bed Management.

- To manage clients with complex needs, using evidence based, client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions with a sensory focus.
- To provide OT flexibly across a variety of treatment programmes including groups and individual work in a variety of settings including the ward and home.
- To manage clients with a range of complex needs, using evidence based, client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions
- To participate in and contribute to local service development and strategy.
- Liaision with colleagues in Adult Mental Health Services and Early Intervention Services to ensure that effective transition arrangements exist for clients who are likely to require ongoing support afterthe age of 18
- To contribute to the Trustwide occupational therapy strategy (Model of Human Occupation and Specialist forums).
- To supervise OT students on fieldwork placements.
- To offer specialist supervision around Sensory assessment/intervention and education to more occupational therapy staff in the ARC service line, and inpatient services.
- To undertake regular audit and R&D activities.
- To provide training and support for families, staff and wider network professionals as required.
Person SpecificationEducation, Training & QualificationsEssential- Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registration to practice in the UK
- Evidence of post registration training relevant to mental health practice
- Training in the theory and application of the model of human occupation within the first 4 months of appointment
Desirable- Masters degree in subject relevant to clinical post
- Practice placement educators course within one year of appointment
- Leadership training
ExperienceEssential- Experience of carrying a caseload of service users with complex and diverse needs in a mental health setting
- Post-graduate clinical experience highly related to clinical field
- Experience of working in an inter-professional team.
- Experience of working within a multi-agency environment.
- Experience of working in a range of mental health settings
