Job summary
To provide a comprehensive physical health service as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to patients with physical health needs within Health & Justice. In conjunction with the management team contribute to and deliver a comprehensive Primary Health Service in partnership with mental health and key stakeholders as part of a multidisciplinary team within the prison setting.

This role involves undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, performing diagnostic tests, as appropriate, and providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to meet prisoner health and social care needs.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will be required to work flexibly across the service to provide responsive, evidence-based interventions working alongside physical and mental health clinical teams.
  • The postholder will be part of a team that provides primary care within a prison, preventing transfer to outside hospitals. They will demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding of health issues and treatment options and have a keen interest in developing knowledge and skills across the integrated services.

Person Specification

Education
  • Essential: Registered Nurse Level 1 - Adult / General/Mental Health
  • Desirable: Mentorship / supervision/teaching / assessing experience/ training

Knowledge
  • Essential: Knowledge of current healthcare issues, Knowledge of clinical governance audit, risk management and quality agenda, Working within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team, Competent in clinical practice e.g., phlebotomy, ECG monitoring, Worked in a complex environment managing deteriorating patients, Understanding and application of confidentiality
  • Desirable: Experience of working within a Health & Justice environment, Experience of health needs assessment/Triage, Working to Patient Group Directives, Experience in working in general practice, Experience of using SystmOne or willing to undertake training

Skills
  • Essential: Excellent communication skills, Able to work autonomous and part of a team, Ability to prioritise and organise own workload and that of other staff, Ability to work in a challenging and diverse environment, Keyboard skills - computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Able to maintain contemporaneous clinical records following clinical activities.
