We are a friendly small surgery in Newby looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Dispensary Assistant to join our small team.

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Dispenser to join our friendly dispensary team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified individual to contribute to the safe and efficient dispensing of medicines to our registered patients. You will work as part of a dedicated team, providing a high standard of dispensing service in a professional and caring environment.

Main duties of the job
As a member of the dispensary, you will be first point of contact for our service users and visitors to the dispensary. You will need to be non-judgemental with excellent communication skills.

You must be able to deal objectively and professionally in a calm and approachable manner when liasing with staff, healthcare professionals and outside organisations. Prioritising a busy workload and possessing the ability to deal with a wie range of duties in a busy environment is required

Confidentiality
This role involves access to sensitive and confidential patient and practice information. All staff are required to adhere strictly to the practice's confidentiality policy and relevant legislation, including the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR. Patient information must never be disclosed to unauthorised parties, either inside or outside the surgery. A breach of confidentiality is a serious disciplinary matter. All members of the dispensary team are required to sign a confidentiality agreement upon commencement of employment. This duty of confidentiality extends beyond the period of employment.

Job responsibilities

• Accurately dispense prescriptions in accordance with legal requirements, practice protocols, and clinical guidelines.
• Receive, process, and issue prescriptions to patients, ensuring correct labelling, dosage instructions, and patient details.
• Maintain accurate and up to date dispensary records and stock control, including ordering, receiving, and storing medications appropriately.
• Check expiry dates and rotate stock in accordance with dispensary procedures.
• Process repeat prescriptions efficiently, liaising with clinical staff where necessary.
• Provide patients with clear information and advice regarding their medication, escalating queries to a clinician where appropriate.
• Operate and maintain dispensary equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Comply with all relevant legislation, including the Medicines Act, Health and Safety regulations, and NHS dispensing standards.
• Maintain strict confidentiality at all times in relation to patient information and all practice matters, in accordance with the Data Protection Act, Caldicott Guidelines, and NHS confidentiality policies.
• Participate in clinical audits, dispensary reviews, and continuing professional development as required.
• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post as reasonably requested by management.

Qualifications

• Essential Requirements
• NVQ Level 2 Dispensing qualification or equivalent, this is an essential requirement of the post.
• Sound knowledge of dispensing procedures, medicines legislation, and NHS dispensing standards.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with patients sensitively and professionally.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required.
• A commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
• A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours
