Job summary
Are you a compassionate Registered Nurse looking to make a real difference in patients' lives?

At St Gemma's Hospice, we provide outstanding specialist palliative and end of life care, supporting patients and their families through some of life's most challenging times. We are looking for caring, motivated Registered Nurses to join our exceptional Inpatient Unit team and help us deliver the highest standards of specialist care.

Working within our specialist palliative care unit, you will care for patients with complex needs as part of a highly skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team. With a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, you'll have the opportunity to provide truly person-centred care while developing your expertise in a specialist setting.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver outstanding nursing care to patients with complex palliative and end of life care needs.
  • Support and care for a designated group of patients within a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio.
  • Work collaboratively with senior colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Build trusting relationships with patients and families through excellent communication and compassionate support.
  • Role model the St Gemma's values and behaviour framework.
  • Contribute to a positive, caring, and professional team culture.
  • Participate in rotational shift patterns including days and nights.

About us
St Gemmas Hospice is an independent Leeds-based charity and one of the leading hospices in the UK, providing expert care and support for local people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. We offer care to patients, families and carers in the Hospices In-Patient Unit, through the St Gemmas community team, and at our Out-Patients.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • Caring for patients at end of life. Research/evidence based practice. End of life care/long term conditions
  • Infection control, Information governance
  • Evidence of professional updating.

Desirable
  • Post registration experience. Management experience.
  • Team nursing experience. Mentorship

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse (Level 1)

Desirable
  • Supporting Learning in Practice or equivalent (ENB 998, Mentorship in Practice, NVQ/QCF assessor)
  • Certificate in Palliative Care/BSc in Cancer Care or associated modules (20 credits )

  • Time management/organisational skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • IT skills (use of electronic patient record systems/email)
  • Ability to deal with emotive situations
